A reminder that there will be no end of "this attempted bombing we know almost nothing about yet just goes to show how terrible the outgroup is" tweets today, and since this is inevitable there is probably more to be gained from quietly scrolling on than QTing with condemnation.
Admittedly easier to say than do. The TL overfloweth with wretched takes today.
It's a great day to unfollow people.
The remarkable thing is not so much that lefties see this and their first thought is "MAGA strikes" or cons thinking "lib false flag," but that they are so confident as to proclaim it, unconcerned with new info not completely validating priors, and ending up looking like fools.
It's fairly difficult to find major domestic terrorism cases of recent memory that map neatly onto standard left/right divides. Oklahoma City is the best example I can think of, and even that is complicated. Ideology is usually something of a pretext even when valences are there.
The 2001 anthrax attacks are instructive -- also, incidentally, targeting news outlets and Democratic leaders. Coming a week after 9/11, you'd have to be willfully denying the obvious to say it wasn't likely politically motivated. But the best evidence now is that it wasn't.
It's more likely than not that this attack is what it appears on its face to be. But these things are always, always more complicated than they appear 5 hours in -- and especially so with domestic terrorism.
