I understand why @UKLabour are attempting this, & while it IS possible to re-accent what #patriotism & #nationalism mean, imho, their recent efforts have all the nuance & focus of a drunk Boris Johnson & Nadine Dorries doing naked body popping at a wake.

I've written elsewhere about the highly contested & important concepts of #nationalism & #patriotism, which in Britain & many other countries, have been successfully appropriated & mobilised by the Right, leaving the Left stumped, floundering, & backed into a corner.
I've written elsewhere about the highly contested & important concepts of #nationalism & #patriotism, which in Britain & many other countries, have been successfully appropriated & mobilised by the Right, leaving the Left stumped, floundering, & backed into a corner.
Nationalism is generally associated with jingoism, xenophobia & distasteful sense of the superiority of one's own country over others. But this isn't strictly what it means to a sizeable proportion of voters, who interpret it more as 'putting one's own country's interests first'.
Similarly, patriotism - the feeling of pride in, devotion to, attachment to, or even love for one's country - is often dismissed by the Left as at best unseemly, & at worst, racist.
Most discussion of nationalism & patriotism on the Left is without nuance & electorally suicidal.

Nationalism can be divisive because it highlights perceived differences between people, emphasizing an individual's identification with their own nation. When it submerges individual identity within a national one, it gives elites opportunities to manipulate & control the masses.
George Orwell distinguishes nationalism from patriotism which he defines as devotion to a particular place. More abstractly, nationalism is "power-hunger tempered by self-deception". For Orwell, the nationalist is more likely than not dominated by irrational negative impulses.

This is the steady stream of propaganda that's going to be hitting us daily, selling "deprogramming" and "re-education" as normal and reasonable, attempting to convince us that the Biden-Harris side is the good-guy side, admittedly 'backed by corporate billionaires'.
Understand that this same talking head is telling you the billionaire class, the media, and the Biden-Harris campaign (the DNC) are the good truth tellers while we're living an alternate reality, manipulated by the most sophisticated technology and propaganda... as opposed to???
