I woke up at 2am last night and rolled over to see the news about Thousand Oaks, a town that’s right next to the one where my family lives.

I thought “should I text them? there’s no way my sister would be at this bar on a Wednesday.” So I went back to sleep.

She was. She was on the fucking dance floor when the place was being shot up.

She was able to escape out of the kitchen, but a handful of her friends weren’t as lucky.

It was a college night thing that she goes to every Wednesday.

I have two sisters, and one is now part of the synagogue that was attacked and the other was just fucking shot at in what she thought was a safe space in one of the safest cities in America.

I don’t even know how to process this.

I guess that’s why I’m writing it down on Twitter.

Thank you for the kind words, friends. I’m just so happy that she’s still here, but devastated by the trauma that she and her friends have experienced.

Heading back to LA tomorrow morning to be with my family.

One of the boys that was killed asked my sister out a couple of weeks ago. They were just starting to date. He was murdered at the bar where he was grabbing birthday drinks for her. She could have been in that spot with him.

His name was Telemachus Orfanos and he had survived the Vegas massacre.

A video of his mother is going around. The pain she must be in is unimaginable.

We were so lucky and I don’t know how.

My heart is breaking for her and everyone else that didn’t make it out of that bar.
