Every American auto company strongly opposes the proposed tariffs. They all have global supply chains and will lose sales and jobs under the tariffs. There is no nationalist rationale for auto tariffs.
The average auto dealership would lose seven jobs.
And most remarkably, as we note in the paper, the Trump administration has published a sophisticated model (for their CAFE revision) that shows more expensive new cars keep old, unsafe cars on the road longer, increasing injuries and fatalities.
