@Nidhi @ndtv - Dharma Shasta's sthala purana is BhutaNadha Upakhyana. Yes, written rules of that temple.

Swamy Ayyappan was a Kshatriya, not a brahmin, and lived till 1184AD. Records available at his home Pandalam Palace, are "man-made" but historically valid. Just, FYI.
Tantri has constitutionally vested powers over the SriKovil/Inner Sanctum. He has clearly said that the doors will be shut, if ritual is broken. Devaswam was supposed to let the court know practical difficulties and seek ordinance. Did not happen, hence.. protests.
Rule 3b, constitutes an essential "Ashaucha" and is part of our shrutis also. Vedas are divine/apaurusheya, and as a Hindu, how do I let any court correct what my devatas have dictated?

Ayyappa's vrat of Naishtika Brahmacharya is also according to rules in Upanishad.
So in essence, the SC verdict asks hindus to alter and modify our "core" tenets according to dictats of secular morality. That is why, it is important for the democratic establishment a.k.a majoritarian arm, to step in.
