One year after the shooting of Bijan Ghaisar, we are no closer to understanding why he had to die.

The complete lack of transparency by federal authorities continues to hurt Bijan’s loved ones and undermine trust in the community. 1/

Yesterday I joined @EleanorNorton to introduce legislation requiring federal uniformed officers to wear body cameras and use dashboard cameras. It’s too late to stop what happened to Bijan, but this would help prevent it from happening again. 3/

We still don’t know how pulled the trigger that night one year ago, and we don’t know why they did it either.

I will continue seeking these answers, and I know my colleagues will too. It shouldn’t be this hard. 4/4

Two years ago House Republicans began the 115th Congress by reviving an old rule which would allow them to attack federal workers in must-pass legislation.

Tomorrow, @HouseDemocrats led by Members from the National Capital Region will eliminate the Holman Rule.

Our statement:

Today Trump and EPA chief Andrew Wheeler signed off on a new rule which would make it easier for coal plants “to release into the atmosphere more mercury and other pollutants linked to developmental disorders and respiratory illnesses.”

This is awful news, but it gets worse. 1/
The rule Trump and Wheeler are attacking was issued under Obama in 2011 after 20 years of work. It took into account the value for the country of preventing illnesses and premature deaths for thousands, a vast benefit to public health (and to taxpayers) 2/ green.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/12/21/e-p…

As it is, I would think parents do reference checks before hiring a nanny, if the person has lied before, they will again.

Getting annoyed at how Zuckerberg's upcoming testimony seems to be turning media attention away from critical investigation and core issues in favor of opportunistic witch hunt.
All the core problems come from lack of any real regs or enforcement on Americans' personal data, complete lack of transparency in online political ads/targeting, and role of dark money. Rest of issues are derivative
Outrage fine, but clickbait without substance/context can hurt more than help right now. People should be horrified, but for the right reasons. Without sea change in policy, public data access, literacy, and platform accountability, it's all for naught

A month ago I received an invitation to speak at a naturalization ceremony in Dayton, Ohio (and I’m so grateful my teaching schedule would permit it).
It was one of the most moving, humbling, and profoundly American experiences I’ve had in my nearly four decades as a U.S. Citizen myself.
