CENSUS CASE UPDATE: The 2nd Circuit told DOJ its motion for a stay of the trial proceedings was premature, denying it for now.
Here's my thread from yesterday on this:
Meanwhile, at the district court, the plaintiffs filed their opposition to DOJ's stay request there earlier today: documentcloud.org/documents/5205…
And, Judge Furman also denied the stay request at the district court, writing a bit testily, “Defendants' latest motion to halt these proceedings is DENIED.” (I’m out of the office at the moment, but will post the opinion when I return!)

And, yes, DOJ already has filed a letter regarding its "automatically renewed" stay request before the 2nd Circuit. documentcloud.org/documents/5205…
So, we now await one of the following:
- word from the 2nd Circuit on what's next;
- a response from NY and the other challengers; or
- DOJ to file directly at SCOTUS without waiting on the 2nd Circuit.

#SCOTUS, Jan. 8, 2019. With most of the sights in DC shut down, the Supreme Court is drawing a big crowd even for relatively low-profile cases.
It's a one-box Tuesday here at #SCOTUS, meaning one or two decisions in argued cases should be coming at 10a.
The first decision is Justice Kavanaugh's first majority opinion, in Henry Schein, Inc. v Archer & White Sales, Inc., vacating the 5th Circuit in an arbitration case. The decision was unanimous. #SCOTUS

So there’s this emerging cadre of judges who write opinions that seem clever and erudite and get some adoring attention. But here’s the thing. At a conference of pretty bright academics of various persuasions and we have two things we seem to all think about those opinions 2/

1. With @realDonaldTrump once again going after the Ninth Circuit (Happy Thanksgiving, I guess??), here's a medium-sized #thread on each of the five independent factual inaccuracies, analytical problems, and/or outright lies at the heart of his judicial temper tantrum:
1. Let's start with the easiest and most obvious flaw: The actual decision that has set off this tirade was by a federal district judge in San Francisco, _not_ the Ninth Circuit. Especially if he's relying on reversal rates (more on that shortly), that's a pretty key distinction.
2. As for the decision itself, the Executive Order the district court put on hold purports to redefine eligibility for asylum in a manner that is squarely inconsistent with the text of the relevant statute, 8 U.S.C. § 1158.

Odds are that _any_ judge would've ruled the same way.

Joshua was very much a rainbow baby 🌈 and we were so excited and over the moon when I finally made it into the second trimester. (Alex and I are both big rugby fans!)
I was working as a 1st year Registrar in A&E when I suddenly broke my waters at 24 weeks. I was transferred to Southampton @UHSFT who have a specialist level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. They were wonderful, and did everything they could to stop my labour over Father’s Day.

(thread) New developments in the Stormy Daniels case.

I'll update this thread as new info comes in.

First, the background: Oct. 2016, #MichaelCohen, Trump’s lawyer worked with Stormy Daniel's lawyer #KeithDavidson to arranged for Stormy to sign a nondisclosure agreement (NDA).
2/ In Jan 2018, someone leaked the agreement.

Cohen, allegedly using “intimidation and coercive tactics, forced [Stormy] to sign a false statement” denying an affair with Trump. dropbox.com/s/ocvnkwprbs7e…
Presumably Stormy was still represented by Keith Davidson.
3/ Cohen then issued a public statement about the hush agreement, prompting Trump supporters to unleash a torrent of “ridicule and threats” against Stormy—but she defend herself because of the NDA.
