Kinda interesting to think that having a TV channel nowadays doesn't require much more than a framework app and content.
Probably not subject to the FCC? Maybe? Probably?
The big hurdle wouldn't be content, I don't think. it would be publicity. You would have to market your app-channel pretty aggressively to get it noticed. Convince Entertainment Weekly or Variety to care.
Gotta wonder how many years away we are from the big app-channel blockbuster that legitimizes the platform in the eyes of the skeptics.
YouTube still exists, yeah, but it's evolving into something that I can't see leading this kind of charge of creative, original content. Even people who made YT work for years are leaving. Coming up from nothing has to be even harder, now.
If you filmed or animated a 12-episode original series of shorts, YT ain't making you your money back on it. But if you made a MyChannel app, sold targeted adspace, got some premium campaigns by directly soliciting advertisers? Maybe.
There's a lot of weird, original animation YouTube, for example. What if you commissioned exclusive work from 10 animators on there, for a fee and revenue percentage? Then turned around and sold ad space to people who care about the adult cartoon-watching demographic.
Remember "O, Canada" on Cartoon Network? Maybe have a show like that, but for animation student final projects. Those slip beneath the waves pretty quickly after completion. Why not licenses them off grads and let people keep seeing them?
And a "reality show" where you follow the production of an episode of an animated show, from writer's room to first airing. Do one for South Park, one for Bojack Horseman, one for My Hero Academia. Reality shows are cheap to shoot, biggest hurdle would be getting access.
LOL always comes back to cartoons with me.

But that would be okay, in theory; an app network wouldn't require tens of millions of viewers to keep afloat. It could micro-specialize.
