Why is it so hard to have a cross-platform solution to gather link statistics for HomePlug AV devices? I found out that TP-Link uses a platform-native daemon that is called by their Electron app to get vendor specific responses T_T gist.github.com/DJFliX/4bb3a42…

He made an effort to build an application to get data from HomePlug AV devices, but it's dependencies are tied to linux.
But to top it off most of the tools are unmaintained, barely documented, or just plain hacks (for example: github.com/ffainelli/faifa, github.com/qca/open-plc-u…) and of course even if there were this universal tool, the vendors will stuff vendor-specific data in there.
If someone is interested in having some kind of powerline-stats-to-snmp-server container: please contact me. Maybe we can make the world a better place :)

I'm about to try to make a simple electron app in a couple of hours. Never done it before. Stay tuned.
I'm not saying what the app is for because some "helpful" person will tell me it already exists. It's super simple though. Only reason for electron is because I want it to be available as a desktop app.
So my goal with this project was to see if I could glue something together quickly by reading documentation and tutorials. I've got the basic building blocks. But it turns out there are some non-trivial elements that require either more research or grabbing existing libraries.

1/ The biggest discovery in Dec I had when working on a Dapp was how much opportunity there is in building the early development tools for crypto apps: debugging is hard, authentication isn't cross platform, documentation is old/lacking, security is weak. Lots of work to do!
2/ Second major discovery was how basic the VMs are for writing complex apps. We have a long way to go. For example, EVM can't manipulate strings easily. There's so much promise though--it feels like early computing. There will be a lot more focus on the VMs once tx fees lower.
3/ 3rd major discovery was how important it's going to be the fix auth and make it easier. People can't be expected carry their keys or 12 word phrases across devices. Metamask isn't sufficient. It's going to be hard to make mainstream apps without a better solution.

A Thread.

When I was 19 I wrote a letter to The Fugees, debating Wyclef on the meaning of one of his lyrics (yes, I know: #HipHopNerdAlert).

I was just a kid, no connections, and sent it to the address on the back of the album.
Miracle #1: the letter (addressed to "The Fugees c/o Columbia Records" and send to the main Columbia address!) somehow reached him.

Miracle #2: Wyclef actually responded. He CALLED ME to discuss.

Proof? Last week I unearthed this voicemail from an old cassette!
It was an unbelievable act of generosity from a superstar. The conversation lasted nearly an hour. I was floored, even more by what came next: a lyric on The Score dedicated to the Kid.

I was just a fan, and the fact that Wyclef went so far to bless me will never be forgotten.
