With all the support they get from their working teams, why then do CEOs falter? Here’s a thread:
Arrogance: a blinding belief in the correctness of their own opinions. This is a common weakness among CEOs. They’re also prone to overbalance between confidence and over-confidence due to lack of appropriate feedback mechanisms
Aloofness: keeping distance between themselves and the people they work with which causes false assumptions and miscommunication, especially during crises.
Hiding mistakes or problems: Everyone makes mistakes. However, in a first-time CEOs desire to present the best possible picture to his board or staff, he might choose to hide important issues. This is wrong
Executive mindset failure: Fundamental errors happen when CEOs send their companies off in the wrong direction. CEOs ought to carefully examine strategic achievements to avoid business disasters
Poor cultural fit: sometimes, you hear phrases in the workplace corridors like: “He just doesn’t get it.” Every CEO needs support to make up for any deficiencies in capabilities
Excessive caution: CEOs are prone to vulnerability especially when responding to anxiety and work-related stress.
Hanging on to the past: often times, CEOs are hired for their experience and knowledge gained in previous roles. However, when a CEO continually talks about their previous roles and how things were done at their former company, this alienates others from him
Hanging on too long: when smart leaders stay too long, they find themselves in a situation where they cannot improve. The longer one stays in a role, the more compromised they become because of the alignments that are built along the way
