I hate talking about emails. I don’t want to talk about emails. We have so many other things to think about right now that are important to peoples’ lives and need solving, but this nonsense with Ivanka this morning was nothing short of outrageous.
Take a moment to watch her interview:

This is the daughter of a man who marched around the country telling people that Hillary Clinton should go to jail over her emails, even after our nation’s law enforcement agencies concluded she had broken exactly 0 laws. Ivanka Trump sat, smiled, & nodded complicitly throughout.
This morning, she cited this reason as to why her situation was different:

“All of my emails that relate to any form of government work” are “all part of the public record.”
So were Hillary Clinton’s. She emailed about work with employees on their government emails, just like Ivanka.

HOWEVER, Ivanka’s emails are NOT part of the public record. You can FOIA the State Department, you can’t FOIA WH emails. That’s an outright lie.
If Ivanka wants them in the public record, she can release them to the public, like Secretary Clinton did.
Further, Ivanka accused Hillary Clinton of attempting to hide the use of her private email account.

She did not. She emailed with people across government, Democrats and Republicans alike. All of them could see her email address. No one cared until it became political fodder.
Ivanka says her own emails weren’t classified.

Ivanka has no idea if that’s true. She means they weren’t marked as such. Neither were HRC’s. Classification is an art, not a science, and two people reading the same email might have different views on the same mundane detail.
Ivanka said Secretary Clinton broke the rules.

The State Department Inspector General said directly that “Laws and regulations did not prohibit employees from using their personal accounts.”

It remains to be seen however whether Ivanka violated the Presidential Records Act.
Both are stupid scandals, but this deserves scrutiny due to the sheer hypocrisy of it. Ivanka engaged in behavior when her father won an election in part by claiming such behavior should land a woman in jail.
And he was rewarded for beating the drum throughout the campaign. As a reminder, in a 6 day period before the election in 2016 the NYT ran more stories about email than they did policy stories in all 69 days before the election.

In the case of Hillary Clinton, 2 years, millions of dollars, and an investigation proved she did nothing wrong. Read the email chapter in her book, it answers once and for all every question anyone could possibly ask.
And if you’re a real glutton for punishment, read the Inspector General’s report.

The press should cover this and Congress should investigate, and we can see if anything is classified and determine whether Ivanka broke any rules.
