1/5 I'm pleased to announce a seminar series in summer 2019 on the theme - "Exploring the potential for creative and arts-based methods for applied psychological research" funded by a @BPSOfficial seminar competition award. Organised by me, @UWEHealthPsy, @Creativepsyche & others
2/5 The 1st seminar is at Bath Uni on 21 May exploring visual and story telling approaches. Confirmed speakers - Hannah Frith, Naomi Moller, @HarrietShortt & @dawnmannay. Details of how to book will be released ASAP. There will be a call for submissions from PG students & ECRs.
3/5 The second seminar is at Aston Uni on 11 June hosted by @DrRachelShaw on the theme of 'piercing the mundane', with confirmed speakers @ProfRodham, @LauraSue888 & Cathy Randle-Philips. There will be a call for submissions from PG students & ECRs shortly.
4/5 The third & final seminar is at UWE on 8 July on the theme of data analysis & dissemination with @BrettSmithProf, @ginnybraun, @KitzingerCelia & @kip_jones as confirmed speakers. Again, there will be a call for submissions from PG students and ECRs shortly.
5/5 The focus is applied psych, but we think the seminars will have broader appeal, & we welcome PG student and ECR presentations from any field. Stay tuned for booking details & call for submissions! There will be a small ££ to attend each seminar - lunch & refreshments provided

1/10 For those of you learning about or having a go at #thematicanalysis for the first time, & particularly the TA approach developed by me & @ginnybraun (which is quite diff from others), I want to share some thoughts on coding in our approach, & tips for learning to code well.
2/10 One thing to avoid when you're reading data is starting to think about themes straight away & use coding to identify themes in the data. Our approach involves building themes from codes, so themes happen later in the process. Make a note of your ideas & put them aside.
3/10 You want to avoid reading the data through the lens of these initial impressions - sometimes our initial thoughts are 'gold', but often they are quite superficial or obvious, & a thorough familiarisation & coding process can lead to more complex, nuanced & richer insights.

After reading a lot of student dissertations/theses recently - some thoughts on writing discussion sections/chapters in qual reports, & particularly reports of #thematicanalysis. Often the trickiest part of a diss as we have run out of steam & have no idea what to say!
Discussions (conventional ones at least) are tricky because they are both formulaic (evaluate the study, make suggestions for future research) and also very open - there's lots of scope to choose what to focus on beyond the expected content. Some things to avoid first.
When making suggestions for future research - don't switch on the random ideas generator! The suggestions should *arise* from yr research. The limitations of your sample is often the go-to choice here but explain why it would be interesting to talk to other groups.

Pleased to announce Ebony, Hunter, Jenga, Lucy, and Spike have all joined the 1000-mile club! They're each run over 1000 miles since September. Our training runs are longer now, so the distances are adding up fast. Hunter stands in harness with a big grin on her face while Colbert jumps in the background
I don’t have many photos from the past few runs, because it’s been too cold to mess with a phone, but here’s our @Runkeeper data from today. It feels great to finish a 47-mile run with negative splits and lots of energy in the team. A screenshot from the app Runkeeper, which shows elevation on the trail and speed over time. The dogs averaged 10.61 mph and finished faster than they started.

I'll introduce myself! I've always been involved in the #arts from studying in @NCAD_Dublin to hanging exhibitions in #naas & producing an arts show for radio on @kfmradio. I just thrive in an arts environment so working in the theatre seemed like a logical side shuffle
I first started working in @moattheatre when Manager Kathleen needed help in the Box Office one day ten years ago. She hasn’t let me leave since! I became assistant manager & when Kathleen retired in August, I applied for her job. We still talk every day & she’s here right now!
We call her #MotherMoat. 🥰😍❤️ I’ll introduce you to the rest of the team over the course of the week. We’ll call this #MeetTheMoaters

NEW Analysis: Among people with employer coverage, nearly 1 in 5 inpatient admissions includes a claim from an out-of-network provider, putting them at risk for potentially high out-of-pocket costs. healthsystemtracker.org/brief/an-analy… @PetersonCHealth
Even when enrollees choose in-network facilities, a meaningful share of inpatient admissions result in the patient receiving a claim from an out-of-network provider.
Emergency care is much more likely to include a claim from an out-of-network provider. This is true whether or not enrollees use in-network facilities.
