Chittor Fort, the King of Forts.
Chittor is a huge fort. Spread over nearly 700 acres, though in ruins, it is still majestic.
The entrance which has a massive gate and the gateway has carvings.
Pic 1 top of gate
Pic 2 lower part with beautiful carvings
Ashvashala in front of the gate. It is very beautiful. Just look at the pillars, beautifully carved. The horses must have been pleased with beauty around.
Now it has become a gowshala.
This is where our tour starts. One of the many gates to the palace area.
Another ashvashala as soon as you enter. This is a bit plain.
Maharana Kumbha's palace and the second pic is the queen's palace.
Kumbha Shyam temple in pic 1 & 2.
Meera bai temple in pic 3.
Carvings on the walls of the temples.
The Gaumukh reservoir which is the largest of the 22 odd reservoirs in the fort and which still supplies water to the gardens in the fort.
A doorway with carving, leading a verandah with views of present day Chittor.
Way leading to the Shiva temple, Jauhar kund and Vijay Stambh.
The Shiva temple where apparently the ladies prayed before committing Jauhar.
The towering 37m Vijay Stambh.
Vijay Stambh or Tower of victory was erected by Rana Kumbha to commemorate his victory over Mahmad Shah Khalji, the Sultan of Malwa in 1440 CE. It is fully and beautifully carved.
Carvings on temples
The Kirthi Stambh and the Jain temple. These two are adorned with Jain sculpture.
Actually many parts of broken temples were laid out in the grounds. It was depressing to see those parts which were willfully destroyed by invaders. So I didn't photograph it.

The Chittorgarh fort is a must visit for people who enjoy history and sculpture.
