I’m feeling a lot better now. It’s funny how grief works. Six years on, you’d think it would be getting easier, but this December was WAY harder than the last few years. I wasn’t prepared.
Anyway I’m back at work today after what feels like a lifetime of break (but was actually just 2 weeks).

Kinda looking forward to it. Hoping I remember my password😬

After two days of dealing with them in my replies, my overwhelming impression is that there are significantly fewer gamergaters than there were a few years ago, but the things they say have not gotten any smarter.
A typical example - unusually colorful metaphors, stronger than average spelling & grammar for this set...but equivalent in content to “ur soooo dumb hurrr hurrrr”

Never any substance. A screenshot of a tweet reply to me from @AmericanMinear that says, “That’s because you’re a moron with the observational skills of a cinder block at the bottom of the Mariana Trench.”
I suppose “never” isn’t quite true. Sometimes, one of them trots out a tired argument that is just as untrue and/or irrelevant now as it was 4 years ago when it was first proffered. Here are some examples:

A big theme in my speeches across Western US is the formative impact that Irish people & those of Irish descent have had in shaping modern day Western US. This is very true in #SanFrancisco where there is huge Irish heritage & where we have a vibrant @GlobalIrish community today!
Around 11% of the Bay Area is of Irish descent & there is a large Irish born community too. The people to people connections between the region & Ireland are very strong as evidenced by multiple sister city connections: @sfgov & @corkcitycouncil; @CityofSanJose & @DubCityCouncil
@SantaClaraCity & @LimerickCouncil are sister cities, as are @CityofMenloPark & @GalwayCityCo! Quick shout out to Kathy Watanabe @Carunningmom, the Vice Mayor of Santa Clara with proud #Roscommon heritage. Here’s me meeting with Mayor @LisaGillmor & Kathy earlier this year.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ayanna Pressley have convincingly made the argument that in the Trump era, blue states need to go bigger and bolder when it comes to progressive policy-making—which makes it really weird that Charlie Baker is still so popular in Massachusetts. #mapoli
I would love to know what kind of logic allows someone in Massachusetts to simultaneously vote for Ayanna Pressley and Charlie Baker—for a woman whose campaign slogan is #changecantwait and a guy who chains progressive policy-making to the Trump/GOP agenda. I don't get it #mapoli
It's not like there's a shortage of qualified challengers to Charlie Baker. We've got Jay Gonzalez (@jay4ma) running on a progressive and ambitious platform that includes many of the same policies that Pressley and her colleagues have rightly championed. We have a choice. #mapoli

One of the cultural things I love most are Podcasts- I pretty much alternate between Podcasts & Music in my ears every free minute. I'm always up for a recommendation- so I'll throw out a few I love & I'd love to hear what you're into!

Here's the underlying news story. 1,475 of the over 7,000 children which ICE has seized from their parents are missing and unaccounted for - and will probably never be reunited with their parents.

I do not have words for how I feel right now.
Observe the numbers. Over 7,000 taken, 1,475 lost - and this is the first report. The project is still spinning up. The final numbers will be much, much, higher.
