Blame everyone else but us.
Grown Adults cross dangerous 3rd mainland bridge just to go and discharge excrete faeces not minding the dangerous road or falling into the sea and we blame poverty.
Nigerian Customs Service will seize poisonous chicken, warn that it can kill and then dispose same, some will go dig it up, sell, consume and we blame poverty.
Fuel tanker will spill dangerous materials we rush to get free fuel, explosion come and many killed and we blame poverty
Neighbour returns from Italy, tells story of land filled with gold on the streets and flaunt wealth, we withdraw our young daughter, sell all we have and send them on a perilous journey across the Sahara and the Mediterranean sea to die, we blame poverty.
Politician who had nothing, makes money and becomes Chairman of the Local government, he moves out to a more cosy, expensive part of our city, steals all the money and make our neighbourhood worse than ever, he comes back in 4 years and we sell our votes to him with no qualms .
A lorry ferrying vegetable oil is involved in accident and the oil spills into the gutter, same gutter we discharged our faeces into a minute earlier, same gutter we wee into and then we scoop the same vegetable oil mixed with faeces to sell or consume and then we blame poverty.
Yes we have extremely unplanned country, repeated failed governments, and economy that does not serve all but the few, irresponsible public officials who have not made it easy for the poor to break into the middle class.
Poverty isn't the only reason for our sometimes irresponsible and unexplainable behaviour, we are just who we are, we love to blame everyone else but us, we do not like to take responsibility for our own safety and well being.
Until we start blaming ourselves as much as we blame others, until we hold ourselves to the same standards we hold others, the society will continue to be run by those who reflect our very behaviour.
