After a few days of back and forth, the following chapters are not convinced that @girldevelopit is understanding what we need to see from HQ/Board in order to regain trust. We've already endured the learning curves so spare us the guessing. Our communities are waiting.

I keep wanting to tell the org to "do better" but I'm watching that happen right before my eyes at the chapter level. Members should keep their eyes there instead. Amazing group of women across the states and the heart of my experience. 💙

Aaaaand so ends the 4.5 years I spent at @girldevelopit. Lost access to my GDI email and Slack today (as planned) and I keep vacillating between excitement for the chance to apply myself to better causes and immense heartbreak, as this is not the way envisioned the end. A thread.
I'm super torn because a.) I've been stewing on this day a longggg time b.) I've recognized that my persistence doesn't always help c.) I'd rather pour my energy into positive, productive things instead. But there's unfinished business and I want to keep poking a bit longer.
The #gdistrike lives on in my eyes because it's possible to hold an org accountable from the outside and I'd like to maintain as much transparency as possible on the inner workings and failures. Members (and potentially future members) deserve to know the risks.

Friends, please follow @KimCrayton1. She helped me see how poor leadership requires risk management and how women like myself need to stop giving too much benefit of doubt. Refusing to step down when unfit to lead poses risks. We're seeing the results right now. (And too late).
I used to think the risks were a disorganized process or org inefficiencies, but now I've seen those issues bubble up into straight-up, anti-mission behavior. Powerful women have been left out of the discussions because "leaders" want control. Too many wrong moves.
These powerful women are speaking out now and additional stories are surfacing. More patterns are becoming clear. Keep poking at it and stay loud. #gdiStrike

Two days ago, a podcast was released by @KimCrayton1 ft. @shanisebarona that broke the last of my hope for an organization I called home. Yesterday, this powerful network assembled in a way that felt like the old days of @girldevelopit -- women pushing together for change.
As a result, more than half of GDI's chapters are represented in the form of signatures from both current and former leadership members wanting to send a message to the @girldevelopit Board and HQ members: this is not okay.

Before I get into it, a little backstory:

Some of you may have seen this movie before. Its not on cable often, so it's probably been years. It was released in 2005, right when the Iraq war was going all to hell.

The allegory between the Crusades and the Iraq war weren't subtle.
The thing about this movie is that a lot of people felt it was just okay-to-good.

They felt that way because what was released in theaters was so heavily chopped up by the studio the character motivations made little to no sense.

The director's cut fixes all of that and more.

I just saw a Trumplander say that signing the spending bill is the lowest moment of Trump's presidency. It's technically true because he's plummeting off a cliff. Every moment of it is the lowest moment so far.
There's an interesting thing you can observe if you're watching Trumplandia at the moment that he does something disappointing to them, when he backs off, back down, caves, or changes his mind on something they had been trumpeting.
That is, if you're looking very closely and very carefully, you can see the disappointment. You can watch the natural reaction in the wild, in realtime. Before the ~*thought leaders*~ and the botnets spin up, before the cognitive dissonance comes online.

Great question, Frederik! Thanks for asking! So... a few thoughts about outlining an arc of a comic book series... which is, in many ways, THE HARDEST PART OF THE WHOLE JOB for me!
Planning the initial story arc of a comic book series often feels like the toughest part of writing comics because in order to nail down that story, I have to nail down all the big things that make the series and character tick.
That initial story arc is a kind of mission statement, laying out the main character's big motivating dynamic, building the world, setting the genre and style, and establishing the supporting characters and villains. So it requires a ton of thought.
