Did you leave a PhD program and then enroll in a different, better-for-you one? Or switch advisors? I know lots do. Stories requested. Asking for a follower in a less than ideal situation.
Thank you so much to everyone sharing their experiences! I know your stories and insights are helping folks in need.
Students may rightly feel they can't approach a DGS / grad chair or another professor in their department about this for reasons, but you might be pleasantly surprised that the graduate school staff & leadership team (the dean & co) may be able to help you out. Good folks there!
Responses include two advisors who got themselves arrested! And other less shocking reasons for switching.

One would have thought that Tweets with Childlock as this, simplified to the fullest will not need explanation but they sometimes confuse the simple folks one was trying to help from sinking in the linguistic territory abnitio.
There is no one with a meaningful purpose that has a clear path. You can only have clarity on your ability and capacity (if you have found yourself) and would need to trust God in the rest. Look at Moses, was his path clear before the read sea? Of course not. It seemed impossible

1/ I have been asked by many people how I managed to be accepted to @MILAMontreal after two years of trying. Here's my story. Last year I reached out to a new prof at MILA and I audited their class.
2/ They were interested, but when I applied, the semi-automatic system from MILA admission rejected me almost instantly because of my GPA. The admission completely ignored my 6 publications in child #psychology, 2 of which are #statistics paper where I'm first author.
3/ It frustrated me and it still does that this wasn't considered as relevant. Research is research, and research skills are easily transferable from a field to another. People are obsessed with labels and boxes and I didn't tick the correct #AI box.

Things I have learned today with Sodem outside Parliament. Number 1: Leave apparently means leave.
Number 2: Leavers get their facts from Conservative Home!
Number 3: Remain broke the law by not accepting the result of the referendum. Wasn't provided with the actual statute that this offence comes under.

A little context may help here… Everyday the White House pool - about 16 reporters - goes into various 'sprays', receptions, cabinet meetings to see what the president is up to. I've done thousands of these things. We almost always 'shout' questions. 1/
There is no 'protocol', but we try to be respectful - not screaming across the Oval, not interrupting him, leaving when he says 'thank you', matching the solemnity of the occasion, not asking him about porn stars in front of little kids, or the First Lady… you get the idea 2/7
Obama almost never responded except to smile or kick us out. Trump responds pretty frequently, but sometimes bristles when he gets questions he doesn't like. Both hated it when it seemed like we didn't show enough respect. Sometimes we get the tone wrong or misjudge the room. 3/7

1/ Other cities should heed what happened to Atlanta. Such problems are coming to many cities in the near future.
2/ They'll misinterpret what happens here. They frequently get individual desktops infected with ransomware, so they falsely believe they are on top of the situation. What happened in Atlanta is a wholly different attack, where ransomware spread to the servers.
3/ All the news stories are asking how the ransomware got inside their network. This is the wrong question, it doesn't matter. The question they should be asking is, once inside, how it spread. It spread because it got "admin" credentials.

America is so systemically racist, that Joe Kennedy is completely oblivious to the horror of what he just said.

To paraphrase:
Yes, marijuana is not bad in itself, but without it being illegal we wouldn't have pretext for the massive rights violations we ask police to do daily.
Mr. Kennedy is fully aware of the racial disparity with which marijuana control laws are applied. He's also aware of the conviction rate differences, sentencing length differences, and overall destruction this enforcement causes to black families across the nation.
The plural of "anecdote" is not "data." I have lots of anecdotes about harrassment by individual police officers, and pretexted to get out of the car. DWB.

It's easy to focus on an individual officer or situation. It takes just a second longer to look systemically.
