/n Just finished a 12 day m-FMD (modified FMD) with 58 hours of water fasting between Day7(2pm)-Day 9(2pm). All other days was OMAD at around 1:30-2pm comprising of about 300-450 cals of about 10-15g P, 20-25g C and rest from Fat. Main sources of fat incl Coconut milk/oil, Ghee
/n Did not get a blood draw done before or after and neither Dexa scans this time as I have recently been through a lot of surgeries etc and was not to keen. Only tracked BS and Ketones apart from weight in a simple home scale. BS was using AccuChek Activa. BHB with precision
/n Xtra,Back ground M/41, T2D, last A1C 5.1 ,Medication Metformin 1000mg/day. Suppliments during this period- Magnesium 400mg, Ashwagandha 400mg, Triphala 5g .Diet was mostly greens sauteed in ghee/CO with fresh coconut and Indian spices. Greens -spinach various Indians, gourds
/n Maintained detailed logs at @dlifein and some of the highlights. BHb lowest 0.2 Highest 6.2, BS lowest 50, Highest 97 Weight 77.2kg->72.6kg . Most challenging day was from Day 4- end of Day 5 when BHB jumped from 0.7 - 3.7 and BS from 85-59. After that lost appetite and no
/n Cravings. Extreme clarity and energy and surprisingly all my previous fasts had let to bad or limited sleep (6 hours). This time that never came about. Was very surprised at the sudden drop in BHB and rise in BS from day 6 morning until almost Day 8 morning . @shashiiyengar
/n @dlifein any idea why that might happen. From Day 8 it was as expected and this was the first fast where I had GKI as low as 0.45 quite often. I have attached all the graphs and tables from the measurements in the next post.
/n These are the fasting values of BHB.BS and GKI. Measured every morning on waking up almost every day between 7am-7:30am. Sleep was also almost consistent at around 10-10:30pm every night. OMAD time was around 1:30-2pm. No other caloric intake and only other
/n was Green Tea two cups and Black coffee 1 cup in the morning. These are the BHB,GKI and BS across the hours of the fast. Initially the data points were less until day 3 and then increased. Also to note I have been in ketosis for major part of the last 18 months except for
/n perhaps 10-15 days in between when I must have been in low carb (80-100g) and for a few months following ketogains when I was working out. My usual BHB fasting in keto is around 0.3-0,7 and around 9pm is usually around 0.9-1.5 . On ketogains it was around 0.2 fasting and 9pm
/n was around 0.5-1.1 depending on if I trained that day or not. I have fasted 48 hours twice a month for the last year and a half (cultural). Attached are the BS over the hours and Weight and the table with all values as measured during the fast.
/n I do not think I could have done this without being in this kind of a diet (Keto) as once on LC I struggled even to do a 48 hour fast and I can only imagine how hard it would be on a regular carb diet. I struggle when BS moves from 80s-60s with cravings (fat and protein)
/12 and from 100s - 80s (carbs and fat). Thanks @dlifein @shashiiyengar for your support and guidance and my detailed logs are at dlife.in for those interested. cc @SubhadipNandy @Moneylifers @BeingHorizontal you might find this interesting
EDIT 1/n 48 hour water fast
Note: BS in mg/dl ( Accuchek Activa) , BHB in mmol/L (Precision Xtra) , Weight in kgs (just a regular scale at home), Biomarkers tracked - none, Sleep " 10-10:30pm - 7-7:30pm same environment, No travel, same kind of work, no exercise , Supplements as above
what I would like to measure next time: Lipid profile, LFT,KFT, WBC. fasting insulin, IGF-1, HRV , DeXA scans
