Another thing from the podcast: I think people spend too much time trying to predict whether a given week is a "turning point" for Trump—it usually won't be— and not enough on whether the long-term trajectory of his presidency is steady, upwards or downwards.
Even a largely dysfunctional presidency will have its fair share of "wins". It will certainly have good days and good weeks, sometimes even good months. Between mean-reversion and lowered expectations, terrible weeks are more likely to be followed by better weeks than worse ones.
I'm struck by the notion that Trump has actually been pretty lucky so far. Certainly on the economy, which (most economists would say) is largely not his doing. But there also haven't been that many acute domestic & foreign policy crises that weren't of his own making.
