I've been thinking....

There’s a lot of bigot vitriol surrounding how we “identify”.

When I say we, I mean members of the LGBTQ community.

1/

When I say bigot, they’re usually white cishet middle class bigots who’ve got nothing better to do with their time than hate on people who are different from them.

They usually have the same talking points that they focus on.
Things like “You’re all perverts and pedophiles” or “You’re all sex offenders & rapists” or “You’re all unsafe around NORMAL people & kids” or “You’re mentally ill” or “You’re sinners” or “You’re grooming kids.”

I could go on here but it would takes ages to type out. Let's just say that the list of things they hate about us is more often than not centred around behaviours that 99.9% of us never actually display but that fact is always ignored.

There are no more of us who ‘do crime’ than there are cishet’s (less of us in fact), but when 1 of us does something, we all get blamed for it, unlike the cishets’s who commit crimes all the time and somehow the cishet demographic escapes the ‘you’re all..’ finger pointing.

They talk about how we ‘identify’ as if we have a choice. Now, to a degree, I suppose we do but why? I could identify as a cishet woman, but it would be a LIE. I’m not a cishet woman. I’m a cis lesbian human being.

My trans friends could ‘identify’ as cishets but they’re not cishet. Some of them are gay/bi/lesbian etc… also they’re not cis, they’re transgender human beings.

Cishets would have everyone believe that ‘identifying as…” is dangerous. I mean we shouldn’t be allowed to be who we are & say it out loud because it’s so far removed from their own identity that they need to pull us all back into the fold so that they don’t have to see us.

The idea that we are out here in the world, being ‘different’ to the cishet identity is terrifying to them. It’s as if our very existence somehow challenges their cisheteronormative reality and by extension, we become a threat to their own sense of identity in some way.

They also like 2 say that we’re confused. That we don’t know who we r because we’re suffering some form of mass delusion & mental illness. Think about that. I mean if it’s true, there’s an awful lot of LGTBQ folks in the world all suffering from the very same mass delusion.

So very many of us living productive, successful lives in great jobs, running companies, contributing to society but we’re all still suffering from that same mass delusion? That's some serious cishet denial going on there but we're the one's with 'mental health issues'?

Cishet bigots don’t have the first clue who we are to be fair. They refuse to see that of all the demographics, we’re probably the 1 minority who actually knows ourselves better than any other. Our very existence comes in2 being because we are forced to b SURE of ourselves.

Adult LGBTQ people (and I mean ALL of us) spend years coming to terms with who we are. More than any cishet person on earth, we’ll all have spent a huge portion of our lives analysing our feelings, doing a lot of soul searching and self reflecting. Figuring out US.

We all spend so much time trying 2 figure out who we r because we’re NOT cishet. So when cishets accuse us of being confused, mentally ill or delusional, it’s kind of fucking hilarious 2 us because most of our lives have been spent examining ourselves 2 figure ourselves out.

My trans friends r going through this “identifying” battle 2 the extreme. As a cis lesbian, having bigots on me about who I identify is infuriating, but if cishets took away my right 2 identify as a lesbian, I’d still be the cis woman I am. I suppose that's something right?

If cishets manage to take away my trans friends ability to ‘identify as…’ they would literally cease to exist as who they truly are.

Total erasure.

Yes, it's THAT serious. It's no joke, no laughing matter. We are talking a whole minority group, wiped out.

Then we have my non-binary friends who would literally lose half of themselves to the cishet insistence that you “can’t be this…” and “you must be one or the other”

Can you imagine living as half of who you are?

WHY should we give in to the cishets?

WHY should we deny who we are so that the cishets can feel better or superior or win a war they’ve been raging against those of us who are different and not cishet for pretty much ever?

WHY?

For as long as there have been human beings, we LGBTQ folks have existed.

You’d think that by now, the cishets would have grasped the simple fact that not all humans are cishet humans eh? But NO, they’re still fighting it.

They’re still fighting US but….

WE ARE STILL HERE.
