Follow this thread as I share some of my favorite work I was involved in from 2018.
First up: Back in January I wrote about a pair of young Canadian Muslim siblings who made up a story about being the victims of an Islamophobia attack. Predictably, the credulous fools who lapped it all up were the media: quillette.com/2018/01/25/isl…
This was a typical response at the time when the story broke. The siblings later told police (falsely) that the suspect was an Asian man with glasses and black hair.
This ideologically-motivated sensationalization by the media (in this case by a CBC reporter) is how the story quickly blew up.
Up next: How does disinformation quickly travel around the world? For one, it helps when the person spreading it is a former governor & Democratic National Committee Chair. quillette.com/2018/01/30/aca…
In February, @OPB published an interview news director Anna Griffin did w/me on the topic of race in the Pacific NW. It wasn’t well-received locally on social media. You can guess why: opb.org/news/series/ra…
In Feb, @JamesADamore came to speak as a panel guest at campus event I helped organize. There was huge outrage in community, stoked by biased media. We expected it would be controversial, but we didn’t think it could be dangerous. My column for the WSJ: wsj.com/articles/antif…
Moment when social justice activists tried to shut down our event featuring James Damore, Peter Boghossian, Heather Heying & Helen Pluckrose:
Read this to understand just how far activists are willing to go to shut down discussions about sex differences. My essay on what happened when James Damore came to Portland State:

And here’s video I recorded in March when law students at Lewis & Clark tried to shut down @CHSommers and called her a fascist. Full video:
.@CHSommers in March:
“When I arrived at Lewis & Clark Law School to give a talk, a security officer asked if I had a gun. She’d heard rumors on social media. I didn’t, but my friend Andy Ngo, a Portland State grad student, was armed with an iPhone.”

As my profile began to rise this year, establishment left-wing journalists started calling me a “grifter” in order to delegitimize my work. This was my response: quillette.com/2018/03/29/whi…
In March, I was interviewed by NRK (Norway’s national broadcasting company) about Portland antifa. This was one of my first camera interviews.
In May, Quillette published the feature profile I wrote on @ElhamManea, an Arab political scientist who experienced Muslim Brotherhood grooming as a teen. Read this to better understand how the MB strand of Islamism works. quillette.com/2018/05/09/elh…
At the end of May, I documented when Carl Benjamin aka Sargon of Akkad spoke at Portland State with @peterboghossian. Many people were angered.
Also in May, the WSJ published my column on what happens when social justice contaminates a foodie town. Accusations of cultural appropriation have destroyed some local eateries. wsj.com/articles/would…
June: Come inside the Portland bake shop where wokeness trumps workers. I speak with one of the women who was fired for not serving a black customer after the bakery had already closed. quillette.com/2018/06/05/por…
My first interview on the @LarsLarsonShow show. I spoke about the vegan bakery race scam:
And soon after, I started being accused of being alt-right. @kittypurrzog wrote about the bakery race scam & interviewed an influential local racial activist who dislikes me: thestranger.com/slog/2018/06/0…
In June, @jordanbpeterson came to Portland as part of his book tour. Predictably, the city raged. Here’s what happened: quillette.com/2018/06/28/jor…
In July I released my second podcast episode where I interviewed @jordanbpeterson & the Portlanders who oppose him.
In July, the WSJ published my column about the Portland intersectional bookstore that blamed its closure on white women & capitalism. Truth is, they went out of business because they lost a crony sweetheart deal with Portland State. wsj.com/articles/inter…
My third podcast episode released in July:
The Proud Boys have been taken down by the media’s disinformation fueled by political activists. Shortly before that, socialists thought they were being heroes by mobilizing mobs against the group at restaurants. My essay for Quillette in July: quillette.com/2018/07/20/mob…
In July a photo circulated online of a Portland business displaying a graphic image of Trump being beheaded. The online mob predictably raged—except, they targeted the wrong business. My WSJ column: wsj.com/articles/an-on…
This is probably my most-read column of the year (published in August): For over 5 weeks, one Portland neighborhood was under siege by anarchists & communists—with the mayor’s blessing. In their wake, a trail of destruction & human waste is left behind. wsj.com/articles/anarc…
I profiled Lindsay Shepherd @NewWorldHominin in August. She’s now being sued by the two activist professors on the audio recording but even months ago, someone else was trying to take her down: city-journal.org/html/lindsay-s…
In this August podcast episode, I interviewed Jordan Peterson, Lindsay Shepherd, and the controversial Faith Goldy:
This is my most vilified column of 2018:

In October I was interviewed for the first time on Tucker Carlson:
I wrote about Portland Antifa for the WSJ in October: “When people find out that I live in Portland, one question I’m frequently asked is if the comedy show ‘Portlandia’ is anything like real life. I tell them real life is much worse.”
wsj.com/articles/a-lef…
In this podcast episode from Oct., I interviewed Sargon of Akkad, who is currently embroiled in a controversy with @Patreon over its decision to ban him for political reasons.
Who does the future belong to? Fundamentalists or secular people? You will be surprised. My October podcast episode with political scientist Eric Kaufmann:
In Nov., I wrote about another case of race grifting in Portland. A black couple accused a pedestrian of racism after she complained about their car blocking the cross walk. They doxed her, & then made money off the incident w/ merchandise. quillette.com/2018/11/04/a-r…
After being on the receiving end of vicious abuse for my WSJ column about Britain's parallel Muslim communities, I wrote a follow-up for @SpectatorUSA: spectator.us/british-muslim…
What happens inside a protest for open borders? Not a lot of coherency. Read my @CityJournal article on Portland Antifa published in November: city-journal.org/protests-in-po…
Here's the video I recorded in November that went viral showing Portland antifa attacking a right-wing group that was trying to leave downtown.
In November I was interviewed on The Hill about political violence in Portland. "The local media...were derelict in their duty because they portrayed these [antifa] groups as actual anti-fascists, rather than the organized street militia they actually are"
I was also interviewed on the @IngrahamAngle: "Portland is a progressive monoculture," I said on @IngrahamAngle. "The 'Resistance' is used as a rallying cry, & people actually think they are in a cosmic battle with so-called fascists."
"You’re an Asian giving into white supremacy." I wrote about what happened when antifa Portland harassed me for recording them in public. spectator.us/matter-portlan…
And this happened in early December in Seattle:
I wrote my first piece for @realDailyWire about the antifa death threat and being confronted with rifle-holding protesters in Seattle. dailywire.com/news/39089/ant…
The Stranger's @kittypurrzog wrote a piece which backs up my original assertion that I was not antagonizing the Seattle antifa crowd who threatened me. thestranger.com/slog/2018/12/0…
And I was interviewed for the 2nd time on Tucker Carlson: "There's an erosion of traditional sources of purpose and meaning...so instead, people are turning to political ideologies."
Earlier this month, I attended the LA premiere of @islammovie feat. @SamHarrisOrg & @MaajidNawaz. I wrote a review for Quillette: quillette.com/2018/12/14/a-n…
And most recently, my report about Sweden's parallel immigrant societies was published in the National Review (print). I visited areas of the country where explosions, shootings, & murders have become almost routine. nationalreview.com/magazine/2018/…
The Manchester terror attack on New Year's Eve unfortunately reminds me of what happened during my trip to the UK in August. A Sudanese refugee plowed through Westminster in a car, injuring 3 people. Photos I took from that attack that I haven't shared until now:
