this guy is a reporter who writes on the economy for a living and he thinks that American capitalism produced HIV/AIDS treatment
i spent some time trying to figure out cat food dietary stuff recently and it was extremely hard because of how many pet food companies deliberately obfuscate their health information
because there's certainly no government funding in any of those pharmacological treatments
Even if you think "made by capitalism" means "made because of the incentives provided by capitalism", a huge amount of the stuff people are saying aren't doing that.

there's a bunch of people talking about assistive technology in there as if the for-profit assistive technology industry is actually some kind of net gain and not regularly a tremendous scam that preys on sick and disabled people
the "free market" means that cpaps cost some people a thousand bucks and everyone who uses them has to have their sleep patterns sent back to their insurance companies so that they can cut off people who don't use them enough. there is no consent process in this. you can't say no
this is the thing that is most profitable for insurance companies, so this is how it is done
so much of the thread isn't just a little bit this, it's FLAGRANTLY this. it's about bill paying convenience tech and shit
or it's stuff about how great weed is now that weed is legal in some places, which just seems incredibly weird to me. like that was/is illegal so that it's easier for cops, employers and landlords to do racism
like, that one's closer to the actual free market than other stuff, with the stuff about prohibition creating incentive for more potent weed and stuff like that (is this true? or is it just a truism?), but it still seems like a weird choice
