Hey @Walmart, I have a story for you. Tonight I visited store 908 in Orlando. I was on my phone reading my shopping list when an employee approached me. He was a young man between 18 and 25 I’d guess. In a very high-pitched, falsetto, Mickey Mouse-like voice, he said,
“Can I help you find anything?” Now, my first thought was “Oh my, what an unfortunate thing it is, to go through life as an adult male with that voice.” But, I shrugged it off and thanked him saying I was good. Since I was near the toy aisle, he then asked if I was shopping for
toys for anyone. I said I was just going through my shopping list making sure I had everything. And then, to quote Will Smith as The Fresh Prince, “...my life got flipped, turned upside down.” Bryan then looked at me and said “Ok, thank you for shopping at Walmart!”
When he said this, he said it in a voice that was just as “normal” as any male’s voice. A deep, bass-like voice. It was clearly his regular speaking voice that he now used. Several things then happened. I smiled rather than laughed, partly because my little brain didn’t fully
comprehend the magic it had just experienced. I told him “Well played, you’re amazing!” He said “I’m just glad I got you to smile, have a good night!” As I completed my shopping for the next 20 minutes, I couldn’t get what happened out of my head for a couple reasons.
A.) I felt terrible for immediately judging someone because of what I thought was his real voice. B.) I realized that I hadn’t laughed ALL...DAY. I love laughing. I’ve really been through the wringer recently due to a herniated disc in my back and haven’t been laughing much.
But regardless, about 5 minutes later, once I fully processed what had happened, I started laughing out loud...no...GUFFAWING...in the middle of the milk aisle. Now it was MY turn to be judged! The looks I received from about 10 other shoppers just made me laugh harder.
It’s a good thing I wasn’t drinking any of the product I was near because if I WAS, I promise it would have been shooting out of my nose all over the floor and possibly on the other shoppers. I was udderly hysterical. (See what I did there?) #Puns
I don’t know if Bryan (that is his name) could see that I was having a laugh-less day which is why he zeroed in on me, or if this is just something he does with everyone, but he ensured that I had a wonderful evening full of laughter and an amazing start to #2019.
I have never “story tweeted” like this before. I implore you to do the right thing and see to it that Bryan receives the highest award/honor/raise that #Walmart can offer someone that cares about their job and guests so much, that he’s willing to be silly and have FUN at work...
while still upholding #Walmart’s values. I wanted to make sure that you know what a valuable employee you have working for you. The power of laughter is not something I take lightly. I am an entertainer and an actor. Bryan, went above and beyond to improve my day.
Thank you for your time! I sincerely look forward to seeing what results of this. And Bryan, if you ever see this, please don’t EVER stop being you! Thank you for teaching me not to so quickly judge others, lest I be judged by #Walmart shoppers in the milk aisle. #BeKind
