The Church of "Iglesia de La Compania de Jesus" literally uses tons of gold. After a fire damaged it the Church used 5 tons of Gold for partial restoration. Calculate the wealth of the Church that can spend that much gold on one Church. Imagine how much they stole from natives.
The "Iglesia de La Compania de Jesus" or Gold church has graphic murals of "Hell." It has labels like "murder" and "rapist" on the denizens of hell. The irony is lost in a Church built by forced slave labor after mass murder, genocide and rape of natives. But "Jesus Saves."

Ecuador remains 90% Christian, power of childhood Church indoctrination. Many native origin people are now Catholic, a Stockholm syndrome after centuries where native traditions were criminalized. The guide was Catholic. The violence evident in history is blamed on "Spaniards."
But that is disingenuous. Portuguese produced the same violence and genocides, as did the Belgians and French. They did this not because they were Portuguese and Spaniards but because the theology of exclusive salvation condemned all non-Christians to hell. Makes genocide moral.
