1/6/49 at 9 pm on WJZ. 1922 Penultimate offering in Channel 7's series of silent films made NY TV debut five days earlier. Jacques Tourneur's dad, once a more famous director, helmed 1922 adaptation of much-filmed 1986 novel.
NY TV debut 1/6/54 at 11:30 pm on WCBS' "Late Show.'' Listed as CHALLENGE OF THE FRONTIER. Hathaway's 1933 oater was one of 20 Zane Grey adaptations distributed by Unity Television. All retitled because they were still in theaters via Favorite Films, under license from Paramount.
1/6/59 on WNEW's "10 O'Clock Movie.'' Often these repeated at 1:30 pm on "The Late Lunch Movie.'' Lederman's 60-minute B thriller with Bellamy as an alcoholic lawyer didn't.
1/6/64 at 12:55 am on WCBS' "The Late Late Show.'' What Frank S. Nugent termed "a well-wrought B plus melodrama'' opened 2/3/38 at the Criterion in Times Square. On the bottom half of a double bill with Pare Lorentz' Farm Security Administration sponsored documentary THE RIVER.
1/6/69 at 12:30 pm on WOR. Channel 9 dug deep into RKO vaults for Brenon's 1932 curiosity. @leonardmaltin: "Preposterous film in which Del Rio tells [THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND's Norman] Foster, 'My heart she is thum-thump-thumping when I see you,' ''

1/6/84 at 11 pm on WNET's "Cinema 13.'' Elliot Nugent directed one of Crosby's most entertaining musicals (1934) with a gender-bending Hopkins. Remade as TRUE TO THE NAVY (1942) & HOW TO BE VERY, VERY POPULAR (1955). Long out of circulation, now available on Universal Vault DVD.
1/6/89 at 3 am on AMC. New to me, but Schoedesack's 1933 comedy-mystery sure has a great cast. Anybody seen this?
1/6/94 at 1 pm on AMC. Apparently never offered in syndication to local stations, Leisen's elusive 1951 adaptation of Barrie's "Alice Sit-By-The-Fire'' seems to have made its belated TV debut 3/6/87 on the USA Network. Available on @amazonprimenow.
1/6/99 at 8, 9:30 and 11 pm. TCM was showing three of the four film versions of George Kelly's stage comedy (1934, 1946 and 1926), now all sadly unavailable because of rights issues.
1/6/10 at 8 pm on TCM. "Shadows of Russia'' showcase begins its month-long run with THE SCARLET EMPRESS (1934). Watch Robert Osborne's intro with a shout-out to co-programmer @selfstyledsiren and me: facebook.com/lumenick/video…
