Oh, that false equivalency was part and parcel of fact-checking all along. That's why I'm so forthright and confrontational about it - sometimes to my own detriment, but I do try to own up and fix it when I go over the top. vox.com/2019/1/9/18175…
That's why I was so keen to fact-check this speech last night. I don't know many people who are anti-disinformation journalists with years of experience on the border as well.

If you can't tell the difference between facts and feelings, why are you in the news business?
What no one wants to say out loud is that the production values and reporting overall at KUSI has declined so precipitously thanks to budget cuts and a hellish internal culture that they are difficult to watch at this point. I think that's probably the real reason.
Also "kusi" is Finnish for piss. I've never had any reason to share this bit of trivia until now so today is a great day

This is a lie. I live on the border. There is no emergency. The only thing that makes me feel unsafe is the war game my own country is playing against an ally in peacetime.
I pass back and forth between countries regularly. The most unsafe I feel is when border agents harass me and search my car for no reason, which now happens just about every time I cross despite my SENTRI card and squeaky-clean history. Why do you think that is, @DHSgov? 🤔
It seems to only happen to me and a few other journalists. It's almost as if we're being singled out. But don't worry, if it's happening to us, it's going to happen to the rest of you, too.

People are smarter and better than we give them credit for most of the time. Humans are smart! This study ended up really depressing a lot of fact-checkers and I always was convinced that there was some kind of issue with it. My optimism paid off!

#FACT: At the end of 2017, arrests of people attempting to illegally enter the U.S. dropped to the lowest level since 1971. Between 2000 & 2018, border apprehensions fell sharply from roughly 1.6 m. in FY 2000 to approximately 400,000 in FY 2018 – that's a 75% drop.

This "Pocahontas" crap w/ Warren is a perfect test case for tribal epistemology. The challenge is not determining whether it's true. It's clearly not. The challenge is making the fact that it's false *matter*. Will its truth value play any role at all in Warren's political fate?
Imagine two worlds, identical in every way, except: in one, the charge against Warren is true; in the other, it is false.

Now, think about how the politics play out in those two worlds. Is there any difference at all? Is the truth value of the claim connected to anything?

#Fact 1 - The Wage Gap is real. People who says it's not haven't read the data.

However, in places like the USA, the wage gap is *not* mostly due to sexism like many #femnist #WomenInScience are claiming it is today. Disparate outcomes doesn't imply disparate treatment.
Women typically choose fields that are lower paying; even in the #STEM fields. To attribute that to sexism only or even mostly is a very dishonest way of deriving an answer for this complex disparity.
