If 19th & early part of 20 the century was Renaissance for Bengal then current century is Dark age of Bengal!

Irony is Intellectual Bengali Stalwart of "Renaissance" era would have been disappointed by current situation of Bengal if not by such comments. 1/n
They were enlightened because they saw themselves as Indians and more importantly behaved like that. Whether it's Bankimchandra's Vande Mataram or Abnindranath Tagore's Saffron clad Bharat mata or their insistence for using Hindi on national stage...all one see is... 2/n
their affiliation for nation. No wonder Indians from all over country could relate with them so easily. Contrast it with modern Bengal... Bankimchandra's Anand math would have been censored, A. Tagore portrait of Bharat Mata would have been burned down and..... 3/n
...and Hindi..pff..that degraded language of cow belt...stop imposing it upon us! Just few eg... otherwise one can go on Current Bengal has hardly has the same enlightened spirit of the last century...it is lost between regressive regionalism and communism! 4/n
No wonder that while in previous generation of Indians Bengaliness was mark of high culture and intellect, in current generation...sigh.. 5/n
Nobody could have been more disappointed with current situation of Bengal then the same Bengali stalwarts of last century whom chauvinists are boasting as their heritage! 6/n
