This guy is going to block me immediately but I want to highlight the ridiculousness of his arguments.
1) I was an infantry platoon leader in the most lethal part of Afghanistan and I was 5’5” 130lbs. I was decorated for valor.

He also argues that “men will be distracted and sex will happen so keep the women away and too bad they’re denied an opportunity.”
I think what he SHOULD say is “We should expect a higher level of discipline in Soldiers who execute deadly US foreign policy.”

But this goes back to the same old argument these types always make: the onus is always on the women to not be a distraction and never on the men who can’t fucking control themselves. It’s the same argument when they say men will rape women.
If I can’t trust an infantryman to not rape his fellow Soldiers, I damn sure can’t trust him to handle himself in a firefight and he shouldn’t be in the Army or, frankly, society at large. And yet we’ll still hear “it will hurt unit cohesion!” But why? Because of sexual issues?
Unit cohesion is a leadership responsibility. If the introduction of women to your formation causes your formation to fall apart, your formation was garbage to begin with and you are a failure as a leader. Don’t ask for easier circumstances, work to be a better leader.
And the premise of the WSJ article is that infantrymen suddenly act like apes when women are around ignores the fact that infantrymen act like animals 99% of the time, regardless. That doesn’t mean they’re undisciplined, but it gives the lie to the idea that women cause it.
My infantrymen goofed off ALL THE TIME. We also humped packs through mountains and fought the enemy tenaciously. There were even women on our FOB - GASP! - and everything was fine. All these arguments against women in the infantry are and fallacious.
