Still extremely curious to know what it was about those particular remarks or this particular moment that made Republicans decide it was braver to put Steve King in the naughty-boy bucket instead of the nod-and-wink bucket.
This is pretty obviously the case given they’ve had 16 years prior to now and he’s always been proudly white supremacist, but it’s interesting to note that at least some Republicans now feel they need a scapegoat.
It’s a reasonable correlation and I’m sure Kevin McC would love it if people drew this conclusion, but I don’t think this is it, given that McCarthy was throwing up nationalist dog whistles right before the election. 
Except he was censured for saying racist things, while as recently as October King traveled to Europe and met with Austrian white supremacists with historical Nazi ties, on a trip funded by a Holocaust Memorial Group.
