To repeat: A shutdown and failed government is the Republican endgame and has been for decades.
Likewise, a level of corporate control over all areas of expression is and always has been part of the Republican plan, for decades.

There’ll still be free expression, of course. But only for those who can earn it.
The whole idea is to let things fail and then turn them over to corporations. The billionaires who pay them will get to profit off of more and more aspects of our public life.

It's the whole scam. Grand theft of our shared life together. Civic vandalism.

It was always the plan.
They'll tell you it isn't so.

OK.

Their leader is Donald Trump—the world's most famous bullshit artist, a reality show star who got rich by not paying his bills.

Their "serious" alternative is Mitt Romney. A guy who made his bones buying up things and selling them for parts.
Very sorry to conservatives and laissez faire capitalists but since your ideology led to this (and it did), then maybe the worst criticisms of that ideology were accurate all along. Perhaps your critics were even underplaying for the sake of your feelings.
The people who could tell this guy was by far the worst option are maybe not the ones who have to do the soul-searching, is my point.

The people who voted for this guy are maybe not the people we should listen to about what the best next step is, is my point.
And by the way, this isn't conspiracy-minded. It's the exact plan.

They'll tell you it. They say it.

It's privatization. It's shutdowns. It's clapping as a dummy announces he'll shut down three whole federal departments and can't remember the third one.
And now that dummy is RUNNING the one he couldn't remember.

And as he was confirmed he admitted he'd just learned what that department even does.

It was the Dept. of Energy.

This guy has long been called an 'energy expert' in the press.

He didn't know what the DoE did.
And why didn't he know? Because it didn't matter.

The whole idea is to not have a government.

A Republican "energy expert" only needs to know which energy executives to whom to turn over all things dealing with energy.

It's the plan.

They say so.

They SAY so.
The things we see as problems they don't.

Global warming projected to kill millions? Great! That's headcount reduction. Big savings.

Our life expectancy is going down? Great! The most unprofitable thing is a bunch of retired people living long healthy lives.

They SAY it.
And just as a reminder, this man is president, and there are people given national platforms specifically to regularly admonish you to take seriously those who think that's good.
Global Corporation Plans Massive Layoffs
“Please give examples in recent years and don’t include recent years” is an amazing Intelligence Explosion and a good way to be taken seriously.
I mean, if you want a pre-20th century example of laissez-faire economics, I guess the most immediate example that occurs to me is 400+ years of human chattel slavery.

so much for laissez-faire economics
When you run a system that treats profit as fungible with moral good, then cheap labor is always going to be morally better than expensive labor.

And the best kind of cheap labor possible is free labor.

As we see today.
Slave owners didn’t just see slavery as an economic good, but as a moral good.

The spirit that animated that worldview has been constrained by war and legislation and judicial ruling, but it’s still alive today.

Children in this country are still taught “both sides” of slavery.
