I am posting this as a cautionary tale. This morning, I received an email from someone who appears to have been pretending to be @Comey. I have verified with @Comey that it was not from him, something that was obvious to me immediately.
In deference to @Twitter's prohibition against posting personally identifiable information about individuals, I have redacted the full email address of the individual. I am happy to share it, however.
I don't know if this is a foreign actor or a domestic troll, but it appears to be someone attempting to get me to do or say something stupid that can be used to support a "deep state" conspiracy theory narrative. I'm putting the entire exchange out there.
Email #1: Note the initials of the email address. Note also the subject line constructed to make it look like there was a preexisting exchange (there was none). Note also the familiar address.
My response and Email #2: Note the slightly stilted mode of address. This is consistent either with a foreign actor or with a domestic less-than-wholly-literate one. (I have been getting lots of correspondence recently from the latter type.)
