Can finally share!

Portfolio company @astranis_space signed a very large contract to cover Alaska in internet from space. Exciting not only because the deal is worth tens of millions of $ but because internet access is a systemic good & 39% of Alaskans are underserved.

THREAD👇
Internet connectivity is the definition of impact infrastructure. Connecting more people boosts economic growth, reduces inequality, increases social cohesion, democratizes education, leads to better government & social services, & improves public health.

Let's examine each:

2/
Deloitte estimates that leveling the connectivity playing field between developed & developing nations would lead to a $2.2 trillion GDP gain for developing countries, a 72% increase in their GDP growth rate, and more than 140 million new jobs in developing economies.

3/
Connectivity also helps reduce inequality!

A Harvard/Columbia study ("The Arrival of Fast Internet and Skilled Job Creation in Africa") found that new internet infrastructure drove down inequality across 14 African states & helped unskilled workers climb the economic ladder.

4/
Internet connectivity boosts financial inclusion.

As study by BBVA (a Spanish banking group), found that internet access was a more dominant factor in financial inclusion than race, gender, or education level.

5/
Internet connectivity leads to better government.

It enables citizens to stay informed about the actions of their governments and to collectively organize if they don't like what they see. This leads to a stronger & more just society.

6/
Internet connectivity leads to better health outcomes.

It increases preventative medicine by equipping people with information, and improves diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring.

Deloitte estimated that connecting the unconnected could save 250k infant lives every year.

7/
In rural areas (including in the US) internet connectivity brings people in healthcare-deserts access to quality, affordable care through tele-heath providers like @nurxapp.

This democratizes access while lowering overall healthcare costs.

8/
In case you think this is just a developing nation issue, broadband access is still a huge problem in the USA.

The yellow areas on this map don't have broadband internet access (data from the FCC).

9/
And why is starting in Alaska so exciting and impactful?

20% of Alaskans don't have any broadband internet access.

This map says it all.

10/
I hope you share my excitement for the potential of Astranis to radically improve lives -- and make serious $$$ doing so!
