9 samurai tips to feel happy from now and for the rest of your life:
1) be yourself,
the cost of trying to be someone else is very much,
discover your #strong_points and work on them, they are your military equipment, take care of them.
2) keep #learning and #unlearning!
Always try to catch new experiences and ideas. Sometimes to learn new things you should unlearn the old things, don't be biased, keep yourself curious and excited about life.

Just to let y'all know. the person I replied to in these tweets has blocked me. I tried to verify his claim to be a priest & found he'd attempted marriage. It's an identical situation to this:…. So he was automatically suspended from exercising priesthood. ImageImage
I mention this as a reminder that not everyone on Twitter who presents himself as having the authority of the Catholic priesthood truly has that authority.

#Grateful for the real priests on Twitter who share the truth in charity. @caseyofm @frjoshjohnson @DavidPaternostr
(The person in question was technically correct about not having been laicized, but he's still prevented by canon law from identifying himself as a priest. Here's the article that says he left the Catholic priesthood:….)

Grady Hospital Wards

It was a Sunday. The students and interns had the day off so it was just the senior resident and me. This Grady elder was our last patient.

Me: "What questions do you have for us?"
Her: "I don't have any questions. Y'all answered them. Thank you."
Me: "Okay. Is there anything else you need before we go?"
Her: "May I have one minute of your time?"
Us: *looking at each other*
Resident: "Sure. Tell us what you need."

She extended both of her hands out toward us, gesturing for each of us to take one of them.

We did.
She held our gaze and then spoke.

Her: "I'd like to pray for y’all. Is that okay?"

My breath hitched. I didn't want my resident to feel pressured or uncomfortable.

Had I been alone? This would’ve been a no brainer. But I was not.

Resident: “Okay.”

On 1/25/16, Montgomery v. Louisiana held that Miller v. Alabama should apply retroactively, giving hundreds of Juvenile Lifers a new chance to seek freedom. In 6 years since the decision, hundreds have returned home to Philadelphia. Today, we’ll feature some #FacesOfMontgomery.
Mike says he is, “equally grateful to have my freedom as I am saddened that I left so many deserving men behind. I pray my comrades have an opportunity to experience the blessing of freedom once again!” He promises he’ll keep on “maximizing my awesome energy!” #FacesOfMontgomery
Dwight shares, “Since my release from prison, I have been living life in reflection and gratitude. I appreciate this opportunity.” He now lives by a mantra: “Don’t tell me who you are, because what you are speaks so loud that I can’t hear you anyway.” #FacesOfMontgomery

Him: "I like the way you look at me."
Me: "Excuse me, sir?"
Him: "I mean. . . I like how your eyes look at me."

His words caught me off guard. I’d only been there a few moments. It seemed misplaced.

Me: "I want to receive that. Tell me what you mean, sir."
Him: "It's like your eyes they look at me like . . . I don't know. Like I'm somebody worth you looking at.”
Me: *listening*
Him: “Like they happy to see me. Do that make sense?"
Me: "I think so."

Him: "It’s like, when you came in here, you put your eyes on me and right off they told me. Like you made up your mind even 'fore you came in here. Like, 'So what about what he look like or what stuff he got going on. He worth my time.’ I could tell.”

I kept listening.

When Valmiki completed his Ramayana, Narada wasn't impressed. 'It is good, but Hanuman's is better', he said.

'Hanuman has written the Ramayana too!', Valmiki didn't like this at all, and wondered whose Ramayana was better.

So he set out to find Hanuman.

In Kadali-vana, grove of plantains, he found Ramayana inscribed on seven broad leaves of a banana tree.

He read it and found it to be perfect. The most exquisite choice of grammar and vocabulary, metre and melody. He couldn't help himself. He started to cry.

'Is it so bad?' asked Hanuman
'No, it is so good', said Valmiki
'Then why are you crying?' asked Hanuman.

'Because after reading your Ramayana no one will read my Ramayana,' replied Valmiki.

Hearing this Hanuman simply tore up the seven banana leaves stating

The story of my little guy’s #COVID19 vaccination:

Pedi visit last Wednesday- no vaccines yet.
No appts at local pharmacy.
Mass vaxx site opened next day - but I was going on a week-long trip & wanted to be here in case he felt achy after.

But today!! We got it. #grateful
He is more than a little afraid of needles. But he said to me “I know I can do this.” And he did. Two deep breaths and it was done.

Other good tips below from @drtaranarula for kids (or adults!) with normal vaccine anxiety.
Right now, 6 hours later, he feels like a peach. He’s spent the afternoon helping to rake leaves … maybe it even gave him super-powers? 🦸‍♂️

This is hard to write but it is true for many. What I’m about to say is a harsh reality of what people go through.

What I am about to say is also the reason why a lot of people don’t ask for help.

People do not ask for help because of the fears and stigmas that exist.

Here Is Something to think about,

What if you were a #singleparent with a #child

You work full time for $15.00/hr

You take home roughly $960.00 per paycheck (bi-weekly after taxes)

#singleparent #parenting #Blessed #grateful #calgary #calgarylife #alberta #yyc

Your bills per month:

$1,000 or more for rent
$150 or more for cable/internet
$250 or more for utilities
$150 per month for car insurance

So let’s do the math

You bring home about
$1,920.00 a month

Your bills average about $1,500(give or take)

This morning we saw something we will NEVER forget.

We were at the #Walmart in Southeast #Calgary. We were shopping for some groceries when my stepson saw someone take a package of meat and put it under their shirt and then slowly walk over to their cart. #Food #Hungry #Alberta
This person had very few things in their cart. My stepson knows what I do here at @HarvestHillsYYC & he asked if we could help them.

I said yes we could but that this person would feel ganged up on if we all walked over to them, so I told him to stay here and that I’d walk over.
I walked over to where they had their cart and said “I know what it is like to struggle. I would love it if you’d let me help you and I’d like to pay for your groceries.”

This person looked up at me and said “did you see me take the meat?” I said “yes I did. I’d like to help”.

I just got tenure @PennSP2! #EconTwitter has supported me with ideas and collaborators, and has given me a voice. Now, I look forward to more learning and researching, contributing to policy, and supporting others in their own quest to make a difference! #Grateful #Blooming 1/n
Thanks to all my collaborators, mentors, friends & critics who have contributed to making my work better. I’m excited to pursue research on inequality in the labor market, economic security, and the social implications of climate change and environmental degradation. 2/n
Some thoughts on my 15-years long path to tenure. This was hard, stressful, & sometimes humiliating. At times, I felt I’d never get tenure because I’m such a loser. The joy of learning and the hope to make a difference kept me going. And my husband @KordingLab, and my 3 kids. 3/n

Uteri owners have it hard.
Ouch. Ouch. Ouch.
#endometriosis #fibroids #womenshealth #menstrualhealth
On a positive note. I did not pass out or almost pass out this month. 👍Last two months my mom was newly in the ICU then she had newly passed away and I could not get out of bed without syncope or near syncope. And I had just had my 2nd vaccine so was already not well.
There are all these wise people who say things about suffering but it’s honestly true..

..that the more suffering you experience the more gratitude you can have..

..because when something is not as bad as it used to be do you feel immense relief, #gratitude

I’m often asked how I am doing. I usually don’t answer as the answer is complex.

The simple one line response is: I’m alive and life is indeed beautiful.

The truth is, as always, more complicated. Six months ago I could walk around our block with just a cane, I could.../1

I know this headline may resonate with some, and that is why I have decided to share.

After 6 years of anticipating a Ph.D., I got a fully-funded Ph.D. admission in 2019. Those 6 years of waiting looked like 'forever'!
#success #phd
Waiting for anything in life is not easy, especially when you have had many successes in a related area. Don't get me wrong, I was making progress in many other areas of my life, but this one thing I have always desired and wanted: to be a Ph.D. holder wasn't just forthcoming.
A bit of background, I finished BSc summa cum laude and top of my faculty and proceeded to pursue MSc in the UK on the prestigious commonwealth scholarship. I should also mention that my undergraduate degree was filled with so many prestigious scholarships and awards.

THREAD. I just spent 1.5 hours on the phone to a journalist, talking about what needs to happen in our whole culture to help address the problem of our drugs deaths. I used the phrase “fierce curiosity” about 300 times. The problem isn’t drugs. The problem is blaming & shaming.
2. We need to change how we see things. We need examples of people & organisations who show us how to do that. What examples did I give her?
3. I talked about @PitteucharE & @JKnussen who changed their language from “challenging behaviour” to “distressed behaviour”. The language change takes away the blame and requires adults to get curious.
