I'm starting to think one reason so many people can't wrap their heads around just how bad and dangerous things are in America right now is that the scheme to take over the country was carried off in the dumbest way possible, successfully, and very few people want to admit that
I have thought this for a while, to be honest
The elite political press failed; the so-called serious adults failed; Donald Trump took over one party with fake polls and his brand of stupid racist yelling without much difficulty, and then beat the other party with all the scams he could muster. It's all very embarrassing.

So let's talk about Ontario Proud for a second.
Ontario Proud described itself as a grassroots political organization, and it became a player in the last Ontario election. Huge Facebook presence; phone polling; TV ads. Clearly conservative. It has some other tendrils, like this one. Sounds familiar!
They rail against the usual current Conservative causes. Anti-carbon tax, anti-Trudeau, and of course, anti-immigration. Their feed is nakedly partisan.

So let's review. On Sept 30 @SueAnnLevy wrote a Radisson refugee column. Relied on fake TripAdvisor and Expedia reviews that were clearly malicious, anti-refugee smears. Called the hotel, got no info. Never went, never checked. @TheTorontoSun published it.
Oct. 1: The Rebel, Canada's pre-eminent anti-refugee, far-right website, picks it up. Relied on Levy's column.
More far-right racists pick it up. Infowars gets in on it. It's in the racist far-right ecosystem now. On Oct 2, neo-Nazi mayoral candidate Faith Goldy does a presser there in the afternoon.

For at least 55 years, fans & critics have been arguing about which is the best bond film. Goldfinger? Casino Royale? OHMSS?

All these opinions are wrong. The best Bond film is 1985's A View To A Kill, because the villain is Christopher Walken trying to destroy Silicon Valley.

So here are a few takeaways from yesterday. Some caveats. First while I'm talking about voting and electoral politics I understand it's necessary not sufficient. Second I also understand that the Democratic Party isn't the end all be all--in fact it's the opposite in many ways.
Third, I know that we've got less than twenty years to get this right (see: climate change report), so I get time is of the essence. Four, I'm not about hope and change. I am about winning though.
1. We won. I mean that literally--we took 25 seats they wanted. We got rid of gerrymandering in Michigan. We ended felon disenfranchisement in Florida. We took back at least two states (NY, Maine). We put two Muslim women in Congress AND two Native American women.

‘Restructuring’ is simply whatever process we adopt towards achieving ‘true’ federalism. RESTRUCTURING is the mission. FEDERALISM is the vision. Legally, we can only restructure through constitutional amendments and we need the support of the Parliament and Mr. President.
A large heterogeneous country like Nigeria cannot and should not be administered in a highly centralized manner. The rights of small communities, towns, cities, states and even tribes to administer themselves LOCALLY must be guaranteed by the federal constitution. Local Control

Apologies @DrSPruitt, @rodgerwbybee, @JayLabov, & @jackrhoton if I came across too strongly in your session on Saturday @NSTA. I came across strongly as I was trying to make several important points about @OfficialNGSS. I love the vision of the NGSS. 1/24
But, I'm deeply concerned that, unless implementation strategies are changed substantially, the vision will not be reached for a very long time. My goal for what I said Saturday and for this follow up is to increase the chances for success. 2/24
Part of what I wish to do here is turn the NGSS on itself and use the CCCs and SEPs to study and better understand the NGSS as an innovation. Use successful innovations - those that stick and make a positive difference - in other fields as models for implementing NGSS. 3/24
