I feel the leadership of NLC should be replaced with young and vibrant workers who advance their course in a more strategic manner.
NLC will only come up with minimum wage request every 4 years. The quality of life of workers is not determined by wages alone.
Asides screaming for wage increasing, the union is a toothless local dog. Same issue with ASUU, they are old and lack the vision to drive the young workers in this fast paced world.
Their impact on workers welfare on a day to day basis is zero..impact on govt policies is zero..
Mode of engagement - too crude. My Dad retired as a civil servant and I know what it meant to actually work for the FG in the late 80's and early 90's. The value has been eroded, the benefits gone and sacrificed for 30% increment in wages every 4 years..
The Economy is already positioned to swallow this wage increase likewise the benefactors who will simply increase their appetite naturally to meet up with the increase. At the end of the day, it will even up and after few months they will be back to square 1..
There are several benefits they can press for that in the long run will overshadow any wage increase and improve their quality of life. The increment may not achieve this, their is no value in it.

I didn't hear the NLC speak or protest against the issue at NHIS, the body responsible for their health insurance cover. They haven't fought for the proper repositioning of the NHIS. Majority of them still spend their salary to pay for essential services in various hospitals..
While growing up in Ilorin, we had the civil service clinics which ensured that civil servants' health issues were attended to, VIP standard. Where are the clinics today?
In service, they struggle to get proper healthcare, when they retire, they are left alone..
At the mercy of their kids to foot their healthcare bills. My parents worked for the govt for 30 years, the better part of their lives. They are retired now, pensions not regular, I buy their drugs. If I don't, they will suffer from poor health. There is no safety net for them..
What is the essence of earning 30% now when the money you struggle to save at old age will be given to doctors?

Did they protest when Maina and co looted their pensions? Their future was stolen right in front of their eyes, they should have shut down the govt..
Eric Moore towers and 1004 in Lagos used to be a prime properties in Victoria island and other FG civil service quarters across the country..they were sold.
Do they have access to moŕtage now? A legislooter on a 4 year holiday at the NASS gets a jumbo house allowance
A local house of assembly member with waec gets a quarters and choice cars. Some of them have up to 4 cars. A level 12 officer can't even get a Peugeot official vehicle after several years in service.

What happened to the Federal staff schools? You get 30% increment but you
Spend so much to educate your child in an expensive primary school.. then you struggle to pay secondary school fees, if you can't your child drops out.
What then is the point ? Why can't they advance their struggle in a sensible way?
We have casual workers everywhere in the country. Foreigners come here and turn our workers into labourers with no benefit. No medicals, no life insurance, no disability benefit, no group personal accident cover, no pension!!
Mr. NLC you dey sleep?
Transportation costs eats deep into the salary of workers just like healthcare costs. If the govt provides affordable transportation for workers, they will save more money..
Bus systems, vouchers for Buses and an efficient system will reduce their cost considerably
They don't need the regular peanuts..like I said quality of life is not determined by cash alone.
Back in the days they had cooperative societies and farmers market where they can purchase food stuff at reduced rates. The market women will mop up the increase in wages asap..
Are they properly trained while on the job compared to their colleagues in the private sector?
What has NLC done to improve this?

Are they properly equipped for life after retirement? These are the main issues..

By 2022 they will cry again for increment..
The major issues will remain the same.
I hope the states will find a way to pay the wages without owing them..
As it is today, it is almost an impossible feat. Bargaining with figures is too technical..figures don't lie. If the revenue don't measure up it will be impossible
