There is a rather serious problem with this unorthodox idea (making it a U.K. criminal offence to sell into the EU goods not complying with EU standards in return for the EU not checking goods imported from the U.K)
It is asking the EU to trust rigorous enforcement of EU law by the U.K.: but there would be hard to ensure that the U.K. correctly applied EU law (no references to the ECJ, I guess) and no Commission supervision of effective enforcement backed up be the various remedies of EU law
Also, in the case of complex products/distribution how do you show that an infringing product (or component of a product) on French shelves came from the U.K.?
“Just trust us to apply and enforce your rules effectively” isn’t likely to appeal.
There are reasons why there are border checks between different regulatory areas.
