1/I missed this cool Pew survey about young Latinos when it came out last September, so I'm going to tweet about it now!

2/Intermarriage is always an interesting thing to look at, since it's probably the best measure of integration.

28% of young Hispanics are married to someone non-Hispanic. But that includes people who aren't married, so the outmarriage rate is going to be considerably higher.
3/And a stunning 58 PERCENT of young Hispanics of 3rd generation or higher are married to someone non-Hispanic.

This is an absolutely ENORMOUS outmarriage rate.
4/Only a small percent of young Hispanics speak Spanish as their dominant language. But Spanish is not disappearing; most young Hispanic parents speak it to their kids.
5/How about ethnic attrition?

Here, the 3rd-to-4th generation seems like a major boundary. 75% of young people with 3rd-generation Hispanic ancestry identify as Hispanic, but only 44% of young people with 4th-generation Hispanic ancestry do.
6/Finally, it's interesting that most young Hispanics believe in the American dream, agreeing that "most people who want to get ahead can make it if they’re willing to work hard".
7/This survey basically confirms the story in the books "The Diversity Paradox" (amazon.com/Diversity-Para…) and "Barrios to Burbs" (amazon.com/Barrios-Burbs-…).

Hispanics are integrating rapidly into the American mainstream, but maintaining some ethnic flavor.
8/Then again, this data is from 2015, before the rise of Trump, so it'll be interesting to see if Trump's attempted demonization and oppression of Latino immigrants changes this story at all.
