Channel 2 premiered 14 Paramounts over the first eight days, one on "The Late Show'' each night and another on "The Early Show'' from Monday through Saturday 1/26 to 1/31. It was even more heavily promoted than the gradual MGM rollout that began on 12/1/56. NY Times ad 1/30/59.
Widely referred to as "pre-'48s'' because SAG waived residuals for films released before mid-1948, MCA's purchase (like MGM and WB) included virtually all of Paramount's 1948 releases as well as roughly half the films the studio released in 1949.
The New York Times reported that WCBS leased 350 Paramounts from MCA, or about half the "pre-48" library, similar to the number of "pre-'48'' films that Channel 2 had leased from MGM in 1956.
