I just want to say "kudos" to the dedicated folks at Right Wing Watch, Media Matters, Think Progress etc. who watch Fox News and other right wing sources, day in, day out, just soaking in the bad craziness.
I can only watch so much of it before I start to feel like bugs are eating my brain and I need to stop and listen to Miles Davis to remind myself that everything in the universe isn't horrible and mean.
Yes, I just watched the Tucker Carlson show for a few minutes and now I don't feel good.

I got a nasty email from a Bernie fan calling me a "centrist" (among other things) today. But I'm no centrist.
I support universal single-payer health care, cutting the DOD budget in half (or more), NO restrictions on a woman's right to choose, compassionate and welcoming immigration laws, and taxing the super-rich in a way we haven't done since the 1970s.
Because they'll still be super-rich, and they should stop whining.

Govt will be open for 3 weeks. All employees will receive back pay as soon as possible.

"I have seen and heard from Democrats & Republicans that they are willing to put partisanship aside .... they have finally acknowledged that barriers will be part of the solution"
"Over the next 21 days, I expect that Dems & Rs will operate in good faith."

So basically there's still a shutdown because we'll be right back here in 3 weeks but at least people will get paid

This bit from Garland-Thomson's book Staring: How We Look is really interesting. I'm going to share some of chapter three in this thread and talk about it because it relates directly to fat studies and BMI.
Some background: Staring is more from the disability studies shelf but, as we see a lot because of oppressions being co-constitutive, much of the work is applicable across many fields of study.
So! In chapter three there's this really interesting part where she's explaining rationalization, which is a term from sociologist Max Weber.
