are we talking #AcademicAbleism? in that case lemme say a thing.

forcing disabled students out of your classes bc you can’t be bothered to accommodate them is a vile thing to do.
we need accommodations bc we can not reasonably (if at all) do certain things that abled ppl can do. not bc were lazy, or spoiled, or entitled. because we CANT.
disabled students have enough to deal with already. accommodations arent special treatment or privileges, they are quite literally the LEAST you can do to give disabled students a fighting chance at pursuing their field of choice.
most of the time they dont even even the playing field. think about how many accommodations involve the disabled student having to put in more time than an abled student would. lecture recordings to be reviewed later. an extra hour doing exams. more time on an assignment.
you may think that those things are generous gifts, but honestly? the disabled student is still going to be putting in two or three times as much time into their studies with accommodations. without them? it’s literally impossible.
and thats not even the half of it. theres also the bureaucratic acrobatics we have to perform just to be considered for accommodations.
weeks and months of appointments and paperwork and tests and evaluations, all to appease abled people who would be outraged if someone not “disabled enough” got even a sniff at an accommodation.
and after all that? we have to be constantly proving to our profs that we arent being lazy, that we are disabled enough. sending out accommodation letters every semester to every prof. being re-evaluated every year.
having to fight for the “privilege” of being allowed to do the classes we paid to enrol in.
