The thing about the border wall is that it's a simple object that is either getting built or not. Those who remain firm on building it while the political class dances around are denounced as mercurial, but they're the ones holding firm while Washington jitters around them.
The simplicity of the wall is one of the reasons it appeals to those who are serious about security. They're used to elaborate promises that never get fulfilled, politicians touting great progress while illegals keep flooding in, "tough" measures sabotaged by shoddy enforcement.
We also know that the truth denied to Americans has a way of circulating south of the border. Smugglers cut through the hot air of posturing U.S. politicians and tell their clients that getting into the United States is easy for the right price.
The border wall is a sharp knife for cutting through political B.S. You either build the wall or you're not serious about border security. It's the moment when we stop the music and take a long, hard look at which politicians are still dancing.
That's why the political elite hates the wall with such passion and labors so hard to portray it as either absurd or a symbol of evil. They hate the way it exposes their mendacity. It's a true/false test for politicians who prefer essay questions with 8000-word answers.
And never forget that the elite hates the wall because it would work. Where would that leave them? Wall gets built, border crossings diminish, crime goes down, wages go up - especially for some of the Democrat Party's neglected domestic constituencies.
What the hell would the political class say then? How could they face angry voters demanding to know why the wall wasn't built decades ago? What phony studies could their think tanks produce that would conceal the stark contrast between Before and After the Wall?
In a world of political hallucinations, those who insist on the concrete reality of the wall are dismissed as delusional. They know they must keep repeating the demand because they've watched politicians squirm away from border security promises a thousand times before.
The political class bullies and rages, whines and threatens, lies and pontificates... while the people who calmly repeat an unchanging demand for politicians to keep their promises and do their duty are denounced as the crazy ones. /end
