Democrats will no doubt focus on Republican efforts to weaken protections:
ACA repeal and replace.
Expansion of short-term plans that don't cover pre-existing conditions.
The Trump administration's legal argument that ACA pre-existing condition protections should be invalidated.
The ACA's pre-existing condition protections include:
No denial of insurance.
No premium surcharges based on health or gender.
No lifetime and annual limits.
No pre-existing condition exclusions.
Guaranteed coverage of 10 essential benefits.
By taking over the House majority, Democrats have stopped ACA repeal and replace. But, since the ACA's pre-existing condition protections are still in place, Democrats face a challenge in coming up with legislation to keep the issue in the public eye.

There are a lot of health reform ideas being floated lately – Medicare-for-all and variations on the theme – that sound similar but are really quite different. Here’s an over-simplified cheat tweet.
Medicare-for-all: Everyone is in a public plan.
Optional Medicare-for-all: People can join a public plan or stay in employer coverage.
Public option: People with individual insurance can join a public plan.
Buy-in: Certain groups (e.g., age 50+) can join a public plan.
When looking at public plan or buy-in options that are not Medicare-for-all, I think the key questions are:

Who can join the public plan?
What do people have to pay?
What is covered?
How much do providers get paid?
How is it financed?

A Texas judge has ruled the entire ACA unconstitutional. If upheld, this would throw out not only the law’s pre-existing condition protections, but also everything else — premium subsidies, expanded Medicaid, preventive services, and much more.
Republic state attorneys general argued that since the individual mandate has been repealed, the mandate itself is now unconstitutional because there is no tax associated with it. And they say the rest of the law cannot be separated from the mandate.
The Trump administration has agreed with the Republican state attorneys general that the individual mandate is unconstitutional. But they have argued that the whole law shouldn’t be thrown out, just its pre-existing condition protections.

As the midterm election approaches, protecting people with pre-existing has emerged as major political issue. Here is how various proposals considered in recent years by Congress would have affected the ACA’s protections.
The House has voted on several occasions since the ACA passed to repeal the entire law, including its pre-existing condition protections.
The House passed the AHCA repeal and replace bill in 2017, which would have allowed states to waive the ACA’s benefit requirements and let insurers charge higher premiums to people with pre-existing conditions with a gap in coverage.

Slashing funding for the Special Olympics is really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the cruelty of the #TrumpBudget. The President’s proposal includes a number of other items that would be disastrous for Nevada and for the nation:
The #TrumpBudget includes plans to repeal the Affordable Care Act. That means no more protections for people with pre-existing conditions. Around 371,000 Nevadans would no longer have health insurance if the ACA is repealed.
After adding $2 trillion to the deficit with the GOP tax scam for the rich, the #TrumpBudget would take as much as $1.5 trillion out of Medicaid and $500 billion from Medicare.

Today Senate Republicans are “plowing right through” with two controversial circuit court nominees who have worked to restrict voting rights and strip health coverage for those with pre-existing conditions.
The White House announced it would nominate Chad Readler to the 6th Circuit on the same day Readler filed a brief arguing that the Affordable Care Act’s coverage of pre-existing conditions is unconstitutional.
