This painting by Caple evokes the "paradise lost/regained" motif: Though we are all fallible we still believe what have been lost could be regained once more by returning to a sacred relationship between humans and nature.

I just checked this marvelous website/database documenting the world through watercolours before 1900. Highly recommended.
Two wonderful watercolours you can find in this website/database:

Painter: Marie Henriques
Date: 1911
This is a wonderful testimony painted by Swiss artist Louis Ducros who stayed in Rome b/t 1777-1793. Here he depicts the interior of the Colosseum with a religious ceremony taking place, a cleric in the left foreground [published in 1780].

Four exquisite details of the marble statue of a Naiad or Nymph as she hesitantly dips her bare toes on a cold running stream [1858] by Brescian Romantic sculptor, Giovanni Battista Lombardi.
These two wonderful details are my favorites showing Lombardi's mastery to bring marble to life: the soft gleam off her pearl diadem centered by a shell and the fluid transparency of the running water.
The delicate movement of her left hand in front of her body is an imitation of the pudica [modest] gesture seen in Roman Venuses.

#FolkloreThursday Rappaccini's Daughter is a fairy tale/short story by Nathaniel Hawthorne about a girl who lives in a poisonous garden, having become poisonous herself due to her botanist/mad scientist father's experiments. A young scholar sees her over the wall & falls in love.
“..as if she were another flower, human sister of those vegetable ones—more beautiful than the richest— still to be touched only with a glove, nor to be approached without a mask. ...she handled & inhaled odor of several plants, which her father had sedulously avoided.”
Boy enters via a secret door, meets her, idly touches her 'sister' flower, she grabs his hand away - POISONOUS! - he finds a painful burn on it the next day. Love and poison spread on through the story. (read notes on the room cutaway image attached for cool story details)

The story begins with the Narrator warning all maidens to stay out of Carterhaugh or Chaster’s Wood or as I like to call it, De-flower Garden, because a fella named Tam-Lin lives there, and he charges one (1) green kirtle or one (1) sextimes as price of admission.
Fair Janet (whose family owns those woods) catches wind of this and comes to three conclusions:
1. She doesn’t take orders from Narrators
2. No one gave Amber Tamblyn or whatever his name is permission to levy a sex tax on her property
3. SHE DOESN’T TAKE ORDERS FROM NARRATORS

Competence is knowing what to do in a situation and how to do it. It is not the same as excellence.
Excellence is dependent on other people, like judges, examiners, teachers, assessors, inspectors, auditors. But we can't control these people and whether they think we're excellent or not.

#b 'Teknik menjawab' is not a series of rituals that you carry out to secure an A in the exam. You don't get guaranteed an A just through superficial actions like highlighting keywords or drawing meniscus or inserting isi tersirat.
The problem is students and teachers treat teknik menjawab as some sort of pseudo magical ritualistic gestures that will bring a certain outcome. Draw a pentagram, slaughter a chicken, and your wish will be granted.
Some remote Pacific Islanders in 1940s came in contact with Allied and Japanese soldiers who were more technologically advanced and thought the soldiers were gods who had many "cargo" (canned food, electronics, modern stuff)
