1) “Late-term abortion” is not a medical term. It was invented by anti-abortion extremists to confuse, mislead, and increase stigma. The appropriate language is “abortions later in pregnancy.” #AbortionIsHealthcare
2) There are many reasons why women may need to access abortion later in pregnancy. Maternal health endangerment, diagnosis of fetal abnormalities, or restrictive laws delaying earlier access to abortion care just to name a few. #AbortionIsHealthcare
3) Viability does not occur at a fixed date and varies between pregnancies. Every woman’s pregnancy is unique and must be evaluated individually. #AbortionIsHealthcare
4) All pregnancies carry risks, but some much more than others, and it is the job of the patient to weigh risks and benefits in all medical decisions. Not politicians. Not journalists. Not strangers on Twitter. #AbortionIsHealthcare
5) Misleading hypotheticals show disregard and contempt for people who have had an abortion later in pregnancy. People who have abortions deserve empathy and understanding, not judgment. #AbortionIsHealthcare
6) Instead of making up hypotheticals, we highly suggest hearing from the real women who have abortions later in pregnancy to hear their important stories. One place to start is @AbortionStories #AbortionIsHealthcare
7) Last but not least, these laws in NY and VA are about protecting existing services and health care for women. #AbortionIsHealthcare #StandWithTran
