I don’t think this will work for Northam re keeping the job but imagine if people did more admitting of racist or insensitive acts.
Also the comments on periscope and the like are truly vile and racist. Can we have some more accountability on these platforms please?
I do wonder who is urging him to keep fighting; seems like every Va and national figure or caucus has urged him to resign.
A better move would have been to admit everything, be contrite, and talk about how turning over the reins to @FairfaxJustin would be the perfect way for the Commonwealth to admit to and heal from its racism
I take it no crisis communications person would even take his call because this is a total disaster

I am watching a Bristish gardening show and it is way more charming than the baking show and also maybe I am secretly Bristish.
Why are the British so into crazy gardens and pastries and hats?
One way that the British are better is they evidently can easily enlist their neighbors to do heavy labor. I would totally do that! More barn raising-type endeavors in the US, please.

So guys: campaigns generally do oppo on their primary/general opponents, but also on their own candidate, so as to be prepared.

@edmundlee 3/ The Washington Post, The Atlantic, (and also the LAT), have been bought by billionaires who've injected a ton of cash into them. The NYT also has benevolent rich owners.

Axios also got investment from the Atlantic's owner and like Vox, VCs.

Hopefully it lasts.

1. Sad to hear the news about @HuffPost and @BuzzFeed, where I have a lot of friends doing amazing work.

Part of the problem is that two companies that produce no journalism -- Facebook and Google -- are capturing most of the profits associated with journalism
@HuffPost @BuzzFeed 2. Think about how much of the value of search and social is based on the fact that they surface NEWS. But those platforms capture most of the money.
3. I also think it's worth examining the trade-offs when journalistic outlets are funded by venture capital or controlled by large corps

These models can inject a lot of cash into journalism but they are also don't really care about journalism. Layoffs are an inevitability.

For the folks going "why don't you just hire a typist?" or "Well that's just money that stays in the family, it's all good!"

The fact that these guys are having their wives, who have NEVER SEEN THE FARM, write the reports is sketchy as hell.
There are so many details that you can't possibly write down on the fly during an inspection. These things easily have 400+ questions.

This means someone who's never even seen the farm is filling in all kinds of blanks.
This is happening with legally significant reports that everyone knows are likely to get involved in court cases.

Case in point: Jensen Farms.

So that's Giant Problem #1. It can't be solved by Just Hiring A Typist.

Imagine if people were more focused on a sexual assault victim's recovery than their abuser's redemption.
All this talk about the abuser's careers, yet I never hear about the abused. We all need to do better on that front. Abusers' names should never even be mentioned until things are made right with their victims.
The media plays a huge role in this; headlines look better with big names. Famous abusers know this too, that's why they seek out ppl they think are powerless. That's why they're exactly the ppl we need to elevate. Shun the abusers, empower victims until they're no longer victims

This is so important. Applicants, always ignore the long bullet point requirements for a job opening. Employers, stop writing requirements you don’t need.
Understanding that “requirements” listed in jobs roles are often meaningless is something I often coach new techies on.

Communicating false expectations around requirements gatekeeps our folks who don’t understand that this is a strange trick of industry culture.
Employers need to think critically about what skills and experience they need from new talent and write specs to match these real, well considered expectations.
