It seems @ewarren is going after #ElectoralCollege again. Her arguments are emotionally appealing, but fail under further scrutiny. She says: "In most democracies...the person who gets the most votes wins." Friendly reminder: "Most votes" can still = small plurality. Consider: /1
@ewarren In the French 2017 elections, Emmanuel Macron received only 24% of the vote. Marine Le Pen received 21%. The French people were upset w/their choices. In fact, in the run-off that followed, a record number cast a "ballot blanc," which is a protest vote for nobody. /2
@ewarren "How about we make America that kind of democracy?" @ewarren asks. Do we want to be like France? Run-offs b/w 2 candidates who couldn't earn support of even 25%? By contrast, #ElectoralCollege encourages coalition building. (See tweets @ top of my timeline for more on this.) /3

Much discussion lately about nature of our republic: Maybe you've heard this? 2 wolves & a sheep voting on what's for dinner is unjust. Thus, our Constitution has checks & balances to protect the sheep. But did #ElectoralCollege just ensure that 1 sheep can tyrannize 2 wolves? /1
Emphatically, no. It’s the most important point that too many miss. 2016 was simply a close election. Both sides did a terrible job of coalition building. One side did slightly better, but it wasn’t bc 1 sheep outvoted 2 wolves. It was bc many voters in middle sided w/sheep.../2
....even if they weren't enthusiastic abt Trump. It was enough to create a federal majority. Those middle voters thought wolves becoming tyrannical, wanted to disrupt status quo. Indeed, the sheep can never outvote wolves w/o serious effort to get middle voters on their side..../3

Two wolves & a sheep voting on what's for dinner isn't a just system, which is why we have #ElectoralCollege. Yet I see people poking fun at the analogy. They take it too literally on purpose, note that urban voters won't eat rural voters. Dismiss the lesson to be learned.... /1
Our generation suffers from its own lack of knowledge about history. Founders didn't, though. They could cite examples of exactly this dynamic in the failed democracies that came before us. Bare or emotional majorities can be dangerous and destructive. Consider Ancient Greece. /2
Did you know people could be voted out of Ancient Athens? Based on personal dislike? Even if you didn't know this type of historical example, our Founders did. The dangers of simple democracy are real. Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it. /3 #ElectoralCollege

A response to @AOC: (1) #ElectoralCollege isn’t partisan. Serves candidate/party doing best job of coalition building.… Those supporting EC b/c they are #GOP…They are wrong. Also: Those *opposing* EC b/c they are Dem &/or hate Trump…They are wrong, too.
@AOC (2) A puzzling claim. Nat’l pop vote wd centralize power in DC. If #ElectoralCollege eliminated, we’d see new fed election code & bureaucracy to manage elections. AND a pres’l appointee for new bureaucracy. @AOC wants @RealDonaldTrump in charge of his own reelection? Surprising.
@AOC @realDonaldTrump P.S. @AOC implies that only swing states matter. No. History shows: Identity of swing/safe states always changing. Also: Safe states not unimpt. Just made up minds earlier in process. When they are taken for granted, they make views known quickly, as blue wall states did in 2016.

Dear National Popular Vote compact supporters: This should give you pause. Just how sure are you that electors will consistently vote against the outcome in their own states....especially when they are free to vote their conscience? 🤔… #ElectoralCollege
From 10th Cir case affirming electors right 2 vote conscience: In 1796, an *Adams* elector voted for *Jefferson.* Why? B/c Jefferson won the state & THE ELECTOR CRACKED UNDER PRESSURE. I ask again, #NPVIC supporters, you sure electors will vote against own state? #ElectoralCollege
Here is the case. Go to page 100 (green numbers on top) and read the story about Samuel Miles.… #ElectoralCollege

A lot of fuss today about @AOC's comments that #ElectoralCollege is a scam & promotes racial injustice. She thinks rural areas have too much power in our presidential election system and notes that those areas are disproportionately white. Some food for thought: /1
@AOC 1st, consider that states’ demographics change over time. Indeed, many other aspects of states’ voting changes, too: No state is permanently blue or red, no state is permanently “safe” or “swing." Even TX used to vote Democratic. CA used to vote Republican. /2
@AOC 2nd, even setting that aside, #ElectoralCollege isn’t looking to skin color any more than it looks to voters' religion, industry, type of housing. Purpose of state-by-state election process = voters from variety of regions, states, subcultures have a voice in pres'l election. /3

Twitter this weekend is Exhibit A in why so many elections have been close in #ElectoralCollege lately. No one is listening. No one is trying to understand another viewpoint. Too many are assuming worst of total strangers & blasting vitriol. Respectfully: Disagreement & .... /1
....differing viewpoints are part of living in a diverse country. It doesn't make one side evil. #ElectoralCollege rewards coalition building & candidates who strive to understand a wide variety of Americans. Today, no one is doing that.... /2
So, unless something changes, look forward to another too close election in 2020. And it won't be the #ElectoralCollege's fault. It will be OUR fault for stubbornly refusing to come together as Americans, to listen to each other, & to tackle our common problem. /3

Because American constitutional democracy is “government by the people.” Not “government by the empty expanses of rocks and dirt.”

Want more votes? Change your red state polices so that ppl quit leaving. #ElectoralCollege is a dumb artifact of slave America.
I mean, do the right-wingers making this argument know that Americans have a constitutional right to travel? That we’re not tied like serfs to a birthplace? That most city dwellers MOVED there from red states, because:

Try raising your minimum wage. Try improving your schools. Try ending the bigotry that runs rampant. And then maybe people will stop fleeing to LA and NY and other urban areas, where people have more votes because there are more people, and that’s what democracy IS.

Calling for a #ConventionOfStates:…

A post by Tony Krzmarzick:

As we live our day to day lives, people don't have time to care about politics. While we were inattentive, changes have been happening!

Millions of illegal aliens have infiltrated our country because of our leaky border. Drugs and human trafficking are epidemics. Muslim refugees have been invited in, setting up enclaves that refuse to assimilate into our culture and advocate for Sharia law. In the meantime the ..
radical left is continuing Alinsky-like methods to transform America to a Socialist Nanny state. The Indoctrination and social engineering evident in our schools and in Entertainment and Media is obvious but invisible to most. Our political parties are unable or unwilling to

Can anyone tell me why the National Committee of Asian American Republicans (AsianGOP) is ;

1. Mainly a Florida outfit, with chapter's in only 5 US states?

2. Membership consists primarily of ethnic Chinese?

For those keeping a photo album, Cindy Yang was at the GOP Convention in 2016, representing the AsianGOP. As far as I can tell, the State of Florida pretty much is the AsianGOP. I have questions #ElectoralCollege

The Executive Director of AsianGOP, Cliff Zhonggang Li, attended Tsinghua University China. Tsinghua University is a known training center for China's MSS. Li upon graduation immediately came to work for IBM. There's a hint right there

I’m not big on Tweetstorms, but I suppose if I am ever going to do one, now is the time. 🙂For those who don’t know me: I am the author of several books about #ElectoralCollege. Been studying it since 2001. Yesterday, E. Warren came out against the E.C., as you’ve prob. heard /1
She said: “My view is that every vote matters and the way we can make that happen is that we can have national voting and that means get rid of the electoral college -- and every vote counts.” The audience broke out in applause. /2
Well, no wonder. Most have spent a lifetime hearing that the #ElectoralCollege is evil (slavery) & outdated (we have airplanes/Internet now!). None of it's true, but people have heard it so often that they simply don't know. Here is the truth: /3

Socialist AOC was created by Democratic Socialists of America, Brand New Congress, Justice Democrats, & George Soros's "The Media Consortium."
We all know AOC was promoted by DSA as an open, self-declared socialist.

This may be the group we are the most familiar with, but NOT the driving force behind this movement!

"DSA shows their muscle in New York congressional upset"…
AOC was created mainly by Brand New Congress, Justice Democrats, & George Soros's "The Media Consortium." BNC, co-founded by Saikat Chakrabarti, began as 20 Bernie 2016 Staffers, trying to organize mini-Bernie canidates for 2018 Midterm primaries, for all Congressional districts.

This is tragically wrong.
I've been writing about the #ElectoralCollege since, well, college.
It's a relic of America's slave-owning past. It gives some voters a full vote--VT, IA, WY--& others--CA, PA. NY, TX--a quarter of a vote.
It must be abolished.
White men love to rush to the defense of the #ElectoralCollege with "it's in the Constitution!" So was slavery, but we got rid of that, too.

The EC no longer has any function except to protect Republicans from blaclk voters--which is, ironically, it's original function.
The GOP wants to maintain the #ElectoralCollege because only Democrats ever get screwed by it. As America gets more "color," those little white states where one person does equal one vote are vital, versus states that are majority minority.
That's why the EC has to go: fairness.

Yes, I’m an angry #Democrat.

We’re not a reasonable party anymore. We’ve exhausted ourselves with conspiracies & outrage while ignoring facts & careful analysis.

Then we have the audacity to complain about the fatigue of it all.

Let’s review the party’s madness. (1/11)
Since our #2016Election loss, we have flopped in every direction to find an excuse for our failure.

Blame the 63M deplorable Trump voters.

Blame the #ElectoralCollege.

Blame Comey.

Blame the Russians.

No. Stop it. Blame Clinton, the DNC, & her primary voters. They suck.
About those #Russians.

We have assured ourselves that Trump is a Russian traitor. We’ve held up the #SteeleDossier as proof.

Nevermind that CIA Director Brennan gave it “no particular credence.”

Rather than let Mueller find the facts, we’ve already executed POTUS for treason.

Something happened this week that alarmed me. @senjudiciary voted on a #ProtectMueller bill. This was an important first step to avoid executive overreach and ensure the #RuleOfLaw survives as an American value. Unfortunately @senjohncornyn and @sentedcruz voted NO. /1
They seem to think suspects should direct the actions of law enforcement. I am old enough to remember when the #GOP said it would #BackTheBlue and suspects got their day in court, but weren't allowed to obstruct the cops chasing them. /2
Ronald #Reagan knew about the #RuleOfLaw and understood #Freedom relies on people following the law. /3

Let's review:

The DNC were not planning on winning the popular vote, they were planning on winning the #ElectoralCollege & didn't.
In order for #HillaryClinton to enter the general election, it appears that the DNC knew that they had to rig the primary.
Even Hillary's ardent supporters like the #Rothschilds, owners of @TheEconomist, accidentally admitted this.
