Every time a Baptist pastor attacks me on Twitter my fertile gang of Catholic followers has one extra baby. Our ranks grow stronger every day. Yuck it up now, but you will never be safe. The pupils must avenge the master.

2. Leave the US to a country with a functioning academia where you're paid for doing your job like a dignified human, not for loyalty, like a dog.
This will sound shocking to most Americans but there are still places in the world where a university professor is paid or fired for doing their job properly or not, regardless of what they think or say outside their class.
My department chair is an outspoken member of a communist party. I'm an outspoken libertarian. Our colleagues are outspoken on Lebanese politics. We're all cordial & professional, & in 9 years, we've not had any conflict or anyone demanding another apopogize, be silenced or fired

You know that work I’ve tweeted about lately that I was really excited about? I’d got to the last (3rd) round, done a ton of documentation and pitch prep, and even spent some of my weekend making them a little bonus data vis. I didn’t get the project. Really gutted. 😞
In my younger life, as a bit of an over-achiever, I spent a lot of my life not failing. The only two memorable things were not getting a medal in an international sports event I was selected to compete in, and that sole A to go with the 9 A*s I got at GCSE level. Hard times 🙄

A thread about Hungary from someone who lived there. There are some very specific reasons why older Hungarians are susceptible to the rhetoric of Orban and his racist pals. They are historical. I do not agree with them but understand why people buy into them.
Hungary has a history of being invaded - the Ottomans, the Hapsburgs, the Soviet Union. It also has the Treaty of Trianon hanging over it which removed 70% of its territory and almost 60% of its population.
Even younger Hungarians feel acutely the history of occupation and oppression. Many of my friends who are outward looking and internationalist still won't click glasses of beer because of the massacre of the 13 Generals by the Austrians in the the late 19th century.
