Destroying an irreplaceable natural treasure and replacing it with a border wall shows a truly skewed sense of national priorities. We should not value exclusion over preservation. I try not to let anger lead me, but this makes me furious. expressnews.com/news/local/art…
A cynic might say "it's just butterflies"… but it butterflies are not "just" anything. They help make our food, and are food. This habitat hosts >200 winged species, including countless native and migrating birds. Places like this are the glue holding fragile ecosystems together
The border patrol plans to install security lights along the border here that would light the night up like day, sterilizing the ecosystem of any nocturnal or crepuscular animals. 28 federal laws are being bypassed to destroy this.

The fact that video clip ends with a plug for a Dr. Oz segment is the perfect underscore for its ridiculousness
There's an old argument that "they" (different groups play the part of "they" depending on who's talking) keep changing the name for climate change/global warming because the old term isn't working or because the science changed. This is not true
The story goes that "global warming" wasn't working or warming had paused so "they" changed it to "climate change". According to the above accusation, now "they" are changing it to "extreme weather" because one part of Earth got really cold for a few days

After sharing this last week, I've discovered there's a bunch of conspiracy theories out there about the increase in peanut allergy. The most alarming target? Vaccines.
What we know: Peanut allergies are on the rise.
What scientists don't know for certain: Why peanut allergies are on the rise

Clear danger combined with gap in scientific understanding creates perfect conditions for conspiracy theories to blossom, and boy are they blossoming…
Vaccines are, perhaps unsurprisingly, a prime conspiracy target for this issue too, for allegedly having peanut ingredients (they don't) that trigger allergy via exposure in infancy…

Today House Democrats for the third time voted AGAINST paying federal workers as negotiations continue. I asked the House Democrat Majority Leader a simple question: how can Democrats claim to support workers when they refuse to pay them and instead use them as political pawns?

Not just large numbers of FBI cyber folks leaving. Also remains an ongoing problem at NSA. And about half of the DHS folks working on defensive cyber issues are furloughed which I'm sure is great for their morale too.
And, as @DavidSanger pointed out today at a lecture at @UTAustin @StraussCenter, "Cyber" is the top item on the 2018 DNI threat assessment list, and no border issues appear on it until page 14.
We're also not paying TSA or the Coast Guard as part of the shutdown. So this shutdown to get a border wall is ... not a great ordering of national priorities, let's say.

3/There’s a bill wrapping together 4/the other measures—covering Agriculture, Interior, Transportation, HUD, the IRS, related agencies, & various science, financial regulatory & central management agencies—remains pending in a House-Senate conference.
