One of my favorite moments of the show was when @tressiemcphd uses "bailiwick" to describe one of her areas of focus. One of my all-time favorite words that I rarely see used. Here's hoping it makes a return.
Seriously, I recommend #withpod in general and the conversation with @tressiemcphd because the guests are smart people and @chrislhayes is also smart, but more importantly he's curious. Hearing a curious person talk to a smart person is a serious pleasure. itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/thi…

The number of things that teachers are asked to "teach" that likely can't be taught, and even if they could be, can't be measured (though those at the top of the chain insist on measurement), boggles the mind. #WhyTheyCantWrite
In #WhyTheyCantWrite, I talk about how a concept like "grit" a useful framework as far as it goes, escaped the lab and took on a life of its own, and was applied in schools in ways Angela Duckworth, the popularizer of grit, even said were reckless.
I frame the chapter on fads through the work of Paul Tough who first wrote How Children Succeed, which helped advance the belief in the importance of character-based education (like grit), and begat prescriptive practices around these traits. This was supposed to be a panacea.

Study on superiority of taking notes by hand does not replicate. Just an idea, but how about we give students the agency to take notes in the way that they feel works best for them? link.springer.com/article/10.100…
I get that we older folks find some student ways foreign, but I recall a moment at the end of class as I was sharing important info and a student was furiously typing away on her phone and I said "this is important," and she replied, "I know that's why I'm writing it down."
I thought the student was texting because that's all I associate furiously typing on a phone with. She used her phone as a different kind of tool and in a way I probably never could or would. Trust students to know what they need and listen to them when they tell you.

Of course, @RepMarkMeadows continues his framing of this as if Congress is the only one doing any real investigating of SpyGate & it's related crimes. And Congress is being stonewalled by Horowitz, Huber, Whitaker, etc. etc.
The Intel Community IG under Obama, McCullough, did this investigation, had 1 of his top people go brief the FBI about what was found, this metadata in Hillary Clinton's emails showing it was being forwarded to a foreign third party.

Great thread - a clarion call for transparency in the Trump investigation. Show it. Show all of it. Tell us what started it, what sustained it, and what you discovered along the way. But keep in mind we don't care about anything but your mandate - whether or not Trump colluded.
.@JohnBrennan preceded Warner in the "I can't answer that question" realm - only having to roll back his innuendo-laced responses to MSNBC to clarify that he had seen zero evidence that Trump was compromised by Russia. That's not enough for journalists today. Those words...
...mean nothing to people convinced that POTUS is an asset of Russia. Who cares that the CIA director who harbors a visceral hatred for Trump issued a correction of his "I can't discuss that" comments clarifying that he had seen no secret reporting that would suggest Trump...

Great conversation last night about what is a feature vs what is the hook when it comes to “what makes a great product” in #XR.

Start with this list of what is the “Killer App” for #VR and notice how often features are mistaken for apps.

My definitions: A feature is an embellishment which can make a product better, while the hook is the core experience that drives users to the product. Think of features as the asterisk icons on the back of a video game box. 2/10
A friend pitched me an app idea using shared identity across apps with addictive ad-clicking behavior for revenue. He said he would play that all the time on his phone to level up. I asked “play what?” He had no answer because he focused on the features but not the hook. 3/10
