i looked up this lady on wikipedia because i was mixing her up with one of the legion of baby boomer columnists that wrote angry columns about service workers saying "no problem" and i guess her entire career is gauging political futures based on how happy people's faces look
im not joking
also if you were wondering, yes, i do 100% constantly mix up every shitty baby boomer who happens to have a column with all the other ones
honestly if you worked for reagan you should just shut the fuck up about politics forever

gamergate LITERALLY stopped the ethics conversation from happening. it isn't that there were maybe some mythical people in the movement that cared about ethics getting taken along for the ride. i do not understand why you, or anyone, is still so incredibly dense about this
you know how you can tell that Pitts is continuing to buy into gamergate's rhetoric? you can tell because of the way he frames conflicts of interest. gamergate exaggerated relationships between people who worked in the same industry and made shit up out of whole cloth.
that was part of how the smear campaign worked.

So as @MichaelShurkin and @Marsattaqueblog have asked me to compare my past experience in the #Legion and my ongoing experience with the @BritishArmy. This comparison will have a lot of caveats, both experiences being separated by almost a decade.
01/50 First, I have to mention that I joined the Legion first, with no prior military training. And I join the British Army after experiencing training in the Legion. You can see that, out of the 2 experiences, one is going to appear a lot easier than the other
02/50 The Legion I joined, though an all-volunteer force, was still equipped with conscription army materiel. I did training in plain green ‘satin 300’ combat fatigues, wore a steel pot (kevlar was only issued on ops). Webbing had minimal capacity (6 mags, cleaning kit, 1 bottle)

1/ OMG, the end of good times. No more left to do. Where’s the innovation. Shocking news from Apple on revenue, but needs some context.

Maturing or mature markets are not dead markets. The world did not change overnight even with this announcement.

This isn’t this is fine. This is fine but with a circle/slash around it.
2/ Smartphones are the first product that penetrated nearly the entire world from essentially two vendors (“google” and Apple). That itself is shocking.

It means dynamics at play are new to everyone. Predictions about future are tricky when one runs out of untapped customers.
3/ As many like @benedictevans and @asymco shown the growth in iPhone units has been slowing (to shrinking by some measures). That led to stopping the reporting of units from Apple “certainly a sign” as many noted.

Let me tell you a story. It's a bit soft and squidgy and maybe too long, but bear with me.
On Saturdays I work at a climbing wall as an instructor. It's mostly inductions, tasters, kids' awards schemes and birthday parties. But of late something a little different has cropped up.
A 7-year old lad was brought along by his parents to try climbing. He's autistic, and climbing had been recommended as an activity for him to try; the logical nature of the goal (climb to the top) and lack of overwhelming interaction with other people make it a good fit.
At this point I need to clarify something. To use the cliché, Autism covers a broad spectrum, but this young boy is what you might regard as classically autistic.
